With an internal warload of eight PGMs and two A2A missiles, F-35 will out turn everything but an F-22. The drag count with externally mounted PGMs is simply too great and will make a gen 4+ airplane handle like a dog.

Instantaneous? Sustained? What speed and altitude? Or is it just a comparison to other aircraft when all parties involved are carrying said armament?

And the F-35 can carry eight PGMs internally? You’re talking about the SDB, right?

In the end, I would wonder if the F-35 is better than the F/A-18E/F?

Overall Capability of Aircraft in comparison to the F-35. So in this case, the F-35 is roughly five times as capable as the F-14D. Of course it can be questioned on how exactly they define “capability” in this case. As always, take it with a grain of sea salt.

On a side note, look at the difference between the Block 1 and 2 Super Hornet; amazing what a simple AESA radar can do…

Now, it will be hard to reconstruct the immediate sequence of events leading to the conflict. What came first, the first Russian sortie or the first Georgian troop movement? Will we ever know the truth?

    Greedo shot first!!! 😮 😀

Everybody seems convinced Russia was ready for this and I can kinda see where they are coming from but:

It seems to me that the kit the Russian army has at its disposal is, generally, less advanced than its Georgian counterparts (see, for e.g., the MBTs employed by the two sides). Also, the Russians can’t have been sure, going into this, that their troops would be better trained or more motivated than the Georgian troops. On top of all that, the numbers, at least initially, did not inspire confidence of a Russian victory.

So, my question is this, when the balloon went up, what made the Russians sure enough that this would be enough of a cake-walk to make it worthwhile going in without a Desert Storm style build-up?

Were they going to rely on air-power? That would be a sketchy thing to base the campaign on, especially considering the backward use of air-power applied thus far (i.e. essentially WWII style tactics, no PGMs etc.).

Here’s an interesting little quip about that from another forum. http://forum.spacebattles.com/showpost.php?p=3724664&postcount=331

Another article detailing the background of the conflict (though it does have a bit of a bias) http://www.jamestown.org/news_details.php?news_id=339

Jeez, maybe the Russians really are just going for that pipeline all along?

Or maybe it’s just more misinformation from the Georgian side?

Kind of annoying when you cant tell who’s telling the truth. But isn’t that how It’s always been? 😮

Well they ARE saying that the PAK FA is going to look fairly conventional for a jet; and the Saturn image looks fairly conventional. 😮

I know, I know, I’m still uber-w(a)nkery about that pic. I’ll bet my toenails that the PAK FA ends up looking a good deal like the saturn image. :p

EDIT: This forum blocks the word “w(a)nker”? Whats so bad about that word? Is it a British thing?

RT reported that Georgian “special forces” were targeting civilian basements with hand grenades in a back part of the city.

The Georgians were apparently also targeting ambulances?!

You can never know which is truth and what is disinformation. As far as I’m concerned, all three parties involved are/could be full of horsepucky and I don’t trust their side of the story no matter what they say.

I thereby nominate these three as both the ugliest AND the prettiest planes in existence at the same time.

Yes, I happen to be one of those mental cases who thinks the X-32 looks good, in a ugly way. Or ugly in a good way. 🙂

Four words: Spinners, Hydraulics, and Neon Lighting. http://www.3dgladiators.com/forums/3dgpimages/smilies/naughty.gif Cause that’s the American way!

Or throw in a free regime change with every purchase of thirty jets or more.

And btw, if you haven’t already seen this…
