I hate you. You beat me to it. But I’d have put them the other way round, & not bothered with 4 guns for the Lightning. Also put “more fuel” as the first priority.
Speaking of which, what was it about the Lightning that gave it it’s phenomenal speed characteristics? And couldn’t they have put whatever gave it’s good speed into a new fighter with more fuel; to get the same performance with more range?
The lightning was good, but it’s range was such a crippling factor…
Is there anywhere one can download the episode? Hyperwarp?
The DVD of the episode on the history channel website wont ship to buyers until the 20th this month, so you’ll have to wait for someone to get it on that day and put it on the web. Unless they recorded it using a videotape or Tivo or whatever the hell you people use nowadays (VCR shall never die! It shall prevail!!! 😮 ).
Eh? And I thought the movie “Stealth” was retarded!
So, going by your army of Emoticons there, I’d say that the movie managed to invoke violent anger, confusion, self-harming rage, constipation, mental retardation, and thoughts of suicide all at the same time? Hey, I know it’s a bad movie, but damn man, see a shrink. 😮
…
I wish I had cable right now… 🙁
What about the kaveri engine?
Depends on your definition of “Better”. In simple terms, the F-22 is optimized for Air Dominance while the F-35 handles A2G and everything else. The reason why the F-35’s systems are so much more advanced is that it’s a whole decade ahead of the F-22. The Raptor is actually a product of the 80s, with the YF-22’s first flight way back in 1990!
The F-35 is still going to be a beast of an air combat jet though.. It has performance at or above the level of an F-16, an incredibly powerful engine, stealth, and truly awesome avionics and systems, on top of it’s impressive variety of A2G stores available. But it’s still not as good as the F-22 in that arena, which has better stealth (I think?), speed and thrust, supermanuverability, bigger internal combat load (technically), and is, by definition, freaking overkill. :diablo: At the same time, the F-22 does have some PGM strike capability, but is not a true multi role jet like the F-35.
The F-35 is to be the answer to the “low” mix of FA-18s, F-16s, and Harriers in US service while the F-22 is to the new “high” F-15 in USAF inventory. Unfortunately, the F-35’s price tag is currently climbing like a woman in penultimate pleasure, so it might not replace all the intended jets at this point.
Russia is gonna be really pissed. 😮 Especially considering how russia has already been fuming about china’s bootleg J-11 or whatever.
This is gonna do wonders for the Chinese aerospace industry, though.
I seriously doubt it will be the PAK FA at this point, unless they managed to pull a rabbit out of their ass with that jet and get it up and running already.
Though it sure would be cool if it WAS though…
This aircraft is an old and well known fan-art model of a proposed strike-version of the J-10 … but sadly nothing real.
D’oh! *headdesk*
that not a j-10 or a FC-1 it’s got wing tip mounted missile. What fighter is this?.
Hmm, I didn’t notice that wingtip pylon before.
I’m no engineer, but it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to add a wingtip pylon to a J-10 or even an FC-1; Mikoyan did it with their Mig-35 (a Mig-29 upgrade) at least.
I wonder if they plan on going ahead with putting TV on the J-10 like rumored. Would it even be worth it at this point?
^^^ Hmm, it does have some similarities to the Saturn design. I like the weapons bay; very aesthetically appealing. 😀 But what a strange wing design; almost looks likes a blended wing-fuselage design. Eh, its just another “artist’s conception” for now…
Hmmmm…..Ok….Any ideas?

Ooooooh! Good picture!!
CFTs, what looks like guided bombs and their associated guidance pod, and what kinda sorta looks like a widened airframe with two engines! 😮 Look at the engine nozzle; it looks too small and off to one side for it to be just one engine there. That and the cockpit canopy as well as the fuselage itself looks widened. Of course, it’s hard to tell from that angle; it might just be an illusion. And the intake looks rather strange…
I did remember a while back something about them deciding to expand on the J-10s air-to-ground capability since the J-11B held more promise in the air arena; looks like thats what they’re doing with this. Hell, this might actually be the J-10C variant thats been rumored.
24 T-50 at $1.5B per year.
So that would make the individual unit price at 62.5 million a plane, right?
I’m surprised; I never expected Boeing to back out on this one, considering since the Swiss already had legacy hornets.
Still, I’ve had my hopes on the Gripen from the start.
I’m sorry, but that photo isn’t conclusive for me. Given the lack of detail in that photo, I’m one brainfart away from shouting “PHOTOSHOP!!!!!1”
Not that I doubt it’s possible. I know they’ve been working on this for years; it’s just that the provided image doesn’t convince me yet.
