    Tropex 2011 coming up.

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma confirmed that the Navy would include amphibious elements to complement other Navy, Army and Air Force elements in the annual joint exercise Tropex-2011.

“TROPEX in terms of involved expenses and platforms is the largest exercise we have. This time we have huge amphibious elements including the participation from Army and the Air Force”
    — Admiral Nirmal Verma

Hoping to get some nice pictures like these from last year

And here is HAL refuting it all..

    HAL dismisses concerns…

    All these are NOT news!
These are desperate attempt by press to represent someone’s opinion as news.

    – on the AC-130 vs the UAV: the gun ship offers fire power, while the UAV offers numbers, persistence and pressence. an AC-130 can only be at one place at a time, for the same cost you can have 10? UAVs covering multiple units, giving instant visual and missile cover

    – against a serious adversary (one with air defences, like SAM and AAA), the AC-130 cannot be employed, it’s a huge, expensive target full of people. UAVs on the other hand are small, expendable and don’t risk any lives

    Agreed.
The main advantages of the UCAV are its persistence and survivability.
Where as AC 130 can bring to the field so much firepower that cannot be matched by current UCAVs.

AC 130 – GAU 12 – several thousands DU rounds
    40 mm bofors – 256 rounds
    105 mm gun – 100 rounds.
    MQ 9 – only 14 hellfires or 2 hellfire + two 500 lb bomb.

    About the cost AC 130 ~190 mn $$ , MQ -9 ~ 41 mn.Operational costs?Cost of weapons?

So previously deepak – kiran – mig 21 trainer etc

now deepak – kiran – hawk – fighter trainer

later deepak/(winner of basic prop trainer contest) – sitara – hawk – fighter trainer?

so kiran will be replaced by sitara as the basic jet trainer?why is it called intermediate jet trainer

Thales has so many subsidiaries that finding something to invest in India shouldn`t be overly problematic.

From 2008 , Thales already has a JV with Samtel Display Systems , which makes cockpit displays , HUD etc.
Samtel-Thales provides mfds for airbus and honeywell and manufactures Topsight I hmds.

Incidentally Samtel also has a partnership with Saab.
