That way we can get to hear from GarryB … Now that is someone who is missed !!
Hear hear!
The Russian navy are getting Ka-62’s equipped with ASW equipment because the Ka-27+ are too heavy for Project 20380.
Thanks spoky. Will those Ka-62s really be Ka-62s? In other words, if the Ka-62 is the civilian off-shoot of the Ka-60, will these naval Ka-62s be a re-militarised version of a civilian chopper? Will they have Russian engines? If so, which ones? In short, none of the news I’ve found out about this is very precise. Is the naval version in development? What will it be designated? Or is this just one of those bogus news stories that’s leaked out into the ether and become accepted as fact?
EDIT: Just saw TR1’s post… is VK-2500 (or a derivative thereof) a contender?
Kamov and Russian Helicopters only mention the ’62 as a civilian helicopter (and needless to say Atlas Táxi Aéreo are getting civie birds) but if its true the RuAF and Navy are also interested does this mean there is a machine with Russian engines in the works too?
EDIT: If there is a military version in the works (with or without domestic engines), what will this new version be called? Would it be too logical to call it a Ka-60 – perhaps with a fun suffix to show that it’s a newer more modern version, like Ka-60M.
As I understand it, Ka-62 is the Ka-60s civilian sister. But I was just looking at the Ka-60 wikipedia page (I know, I know…) and it said sales of the ’62 were planned for the Russian military. Should I be confused?
As I said before, unless some country literally gifts new jets to Serbia – there’s simply no way to afford them. Serbia has maxed out its credit cards and has no means of earning any significant new money.
Most likely scenario, in my opinion, is that the AF high command continue to campaign for new jets but get nowhere for at least ten years.
Second most likely scenario: Serbia leases a small number of MiG-29s from Russia on some sort of deferred payment scheme.
Serbian AF still pushing for new jets:
Politika daily interviews AF chief (in Serbian)
Speaking about the status and prospects of the aircraft “MiG-21” I emphasized that we need a procurement of new fighter aircraft. It is a process that is taking place in countries both in our immediate and wider environment. The need for procurement lies in the fact, on one hand that the resources of time aircraft “MiG-21” are at the very end, on the other hand we are obliged to preserve the ability to control and protect the sovereignty of its airspace, which is part of the European sky. It is unacceptable that today, in conditions of great expansion of air traffic and various forms of possible new threats to security in and out of airspace, to any part of the airspace in Europe is not fully under control. If we are unable to do that, it will take someone else, you certainly will not be free, and will have other negative consequences for safety.
Frankly, I still can’t see any procurement happening for at least a decade. Not unless, as I said before, somebody comes along and gifts a squadron-worth of airframes to Serbia just for the fun of it.
Interesting article from DefenceWeb:
Huh, NATO aircraft are all required to have imperial indicators?
Ha! That would be funny, imagine the French reaction.
From RIA Novosti:
Irkut plans Yak-130 sensor upgrade
But on a more important note, when are we going to see a reasonable nickname for the ‘130? Doesn’t have to be an ASCC reporting name or anything, just something a bit better than “Yak-130”.
My humble suggestion, “Yakizzo” from how Yak130 looks if you pretend its written using a combo of cyrillic and latin scripts.
EDIT: ******! Should always remember to check my facts before posting – t’interweb tells me that the ASCC have assigned the “MITTEN” as the reporting name for the ‘130… so we can call off the search for a decent nickname.
The latest Ka-62 helicopter with the touch screen glass cockpit technology
So shiny!
Othwerwise boring – like just about all other civvy helicopters
One must wonder, if they are aiming high enough..
Must one?
The PAK-DA programme has already been around for quite some time and associated technology is already in development (I refer here to construction techniques, steath technology, on-board computing systems and avionics, sensors etc etc. ad nauseum).
What’s more, I’m sure the time when the design bureaus would have feverishily dusted off concept designs was a few years ago – they will have progressed beyond that stage now.
Engines are, of course, the key component – but my opinion is that eight years should be plenty of time. Unless they really are starting from scratch, right this minute.
What I’m more concerned about is that the concept should be properly worked out so that the RuAF gets a proper bomber to replace the Bear (and, in time, the Blackjack) and not some medium range Su-34 on steroids.
Sorry if this has been posted already.
RIA Novosti report that Russia will receive its first indigenous strike UCAV in 2014
Here’s some interesting news from Reuters:
China starts ‘combat ready’ patrols in disputed waters
Its been a long time coming but China finally seems ready to flash a bit of military muscle over the Spratleys. Vietnam don’t look to be doing too much backing down either.
Sorry, couldn’t find a separate PAK-DA thread. RIA Novosti report:
Serbian B92.net online news service reports that:
Rosonboronexport offers MiG-29M/M2 to Serbia
(news is in Serbian but more or less readable in google.translate)
