This news may be a bit stale but I figured it would be good to throw it in anyway:

China sold missile transporters to NK

For bombing some cave-men in mountain area, the dumb bombs works just fine

agreed. but then the plane is overkill.

And if you can make your pilots use dumb bombs well, the guided munitions become a breeze

don’t agree with that, however, precision-guided munitions require different tactics and so training with those would be better for the pilots – adapting to wwii style dumb-bombing would then be a breeze.

and the implications of such configuration

the implications of such a configuration are that you’re going to be flying your high-value asset right over the target area – seems a bit excessive for a drop-and-hope bomb run.

where are the stand-off, satellite-guided, high-precision weapons that are going to take out high-priority targets without getting entangled with air defence systems? seems to me the russians need to show those off a bit more it they want to look credible.

    Ken,

    Imagine a V-shaped wineglass

I’m thinking that would have to be a martini glass… and now I’m thirsty 😎

PS. I second calls for a video, if there is one

News of this new missile is good for India-China relations – basically, the two countries will never be able to afford to go to war now.

yes, i think getting surplus Gripen A/B may be more economical in long term than getting old mig-21s and F-5s and upgrading them to gripen standards.

Better still, why not get nothing at all? Unless somebody is willing to give Serbia some old airframes for free, or the country suddenly acquires an ability to build its own combat jets, no solution is “economical”.

    Aca, thanks, interesting evolution.

There’s a B92 report on it here: http://www.b92.net/biz/vesti/srbija.php?yyyy=2012&mm=04&dd=02&nav_id=596605 (as always, google translate is your friend)

There have also been reports recently that Serbia and the Ukraine might cooperate on a medium transport helicopter. Rather unlikely but perhaps worth mentioning nonetheless.

Mercurius, you’re wasting your time responding to posts more than a year old.

Now what you guys think of this !

Iran’s ‘flying boats’ go on display at sea

Other than for very basic eye-ball reconnaissance, I can’t see that they have any military value whatsoever.

just a quick question on the Backfire, does anybody know how useful the tailgun is? i’ve always wondered whether its just a dead weight… or whether it might be good enough to do something useful, like knock down an incoming missile.

BTW, guys, thanks for bringing this ancient thread back to life, makes me nostalgic for the days when Vympel, GarryB, Arthur, Steve Touchdown and Tony Williams were regular posters.

what are the chances of those Mi-35Ms staying white? what colour are the azeris thinking of painting them? if they don’t end up red, green and blue i will be most disappointed!

    great pics! thanks!

though it did occur to me that they’d save themselves a lot of trouble if they just painted the entire tail section black and moved the markings to the forward fuselage.
