I doubt the Swedes would sell combat aircraft to SiCG from a historical perspective (i.e. Balkan Wars of the 1990’s).

I just don’t think this is true any more. More likely that they will worry about disrupting the power-balance in the region if they do sell Gripens to Serbia… Certainly it would ‘force’ Croatia into buying modern combat jets – and nobody needs an arms race.

    Djnik,

    Great pics!

What are the details of the MiG-21 overhaul? Damn it! I hate being so far away from things…

I’ve never served as a fighter/bomber pilot but I always assumed that there would be some sort of ‘go before you fly’ SOP worked out for long missions.

You claim to be concerned about civilians but you ignore those who are kidnapped or killed in road side blasts on a daily basis, the very people those helicopter crews where trying to protect!

I wasn’t trying to ignore anybody – it was just an observation.

Russia ups its defense spending significantly and nobody has a single thing to say about it?

We get rid off Saddam Hussein for them and how do they pays us back by blowing up are chopper’s ,throwing petrol bombs at are troops and are Warrior Tanks ,Just wish are Warrior Tanks would shot the hell out off them if they start trouble again.

my thoughts go out to the familys and the Helicopter that we lost.

Do we know what the chopper is that got shot down?

James, I suggest you take some time to learn “are” language before you try sending your thoughts out to any helicopters that have been shot down.

those mongrels that were cheering are really gonna cop it later

Judging by the pictures of civilians shot dead that were aired on the news earlier I would say that some have copped it already. Funny how nobody’s patriotic thoughts ever go out to the families of all those civilians we have killed in the name of their freedom and liberty.

Seems to be more than just a chopper going down – angry crowds, petrol bombs, shots fired, civilians killed/injured… Situation looks a whole lot worse now than it did initially.

Rather that start a whole new thread I thought I’d revive a dying one.

MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s state defense order will increase by 20% to 303.7 bln rubles ($11.2 bln) in 2007, a government minister said Saturday.

“The state defense order is growing more that 20% in comparable prices,” said Vladislav Putilin, who is also first deputy head of the newly created state defense committee.

The new committee, established by presidential decree in March 2006 and headed by Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov, will make it easier to exercise effective control over the country’s budget spending in the defense sphere.

The defense minister said in March that Russia’s 2006 defense order would total $9 billion.

Putilin said spending on weapons procurement in 2007 would increase 22% year on year to 145 bln rubles ($5.35 bln), and on repairs of military equipment by 15.7% to 60 bln rubles ($2.2 bln).

He also said the government had successfully focused efforts in 2005 on priority areas of military procurement for Russia’s armed forces.

“All procurement indicators have grown significantly and acquired a new quality,” Putilin said.

The defense ministry adopted 146 new types of weaponry in 2005, including SS-26 Iskander tactical ballistic missiles and Uran anti-ship missile systems, Putilin said, adding that 409 prototypes of new weapons had passed preliminary testing.

“We have successfully developed the Bulava-30 [a naval variant of the Topol-M strategic ballistic missile] in a short time,” Putilin said.

In 2005, the Russian armed forces received 30 new aircraft, 17 tanks and 91 armored personnel carriers.

Sounds like a pretty hefty increase in defense expenditure. Do the Russians still have a blanket buy-Russian policy (i.e. do only Russian firms stand to benefit from this)? This could be a really important injection into Russian military-industrial complex if everything goes well.

Also, note the fact that Putin’s secret alter-ego has finally been discovered (can’t believe it took that long considering the poor disguise of his name).
    😉 :p

Kapedani, I would be grateful if you could provide me with the title of that book please. Obviously it will be in Albanian but if you look at the back there should be information on the publisher and also the title in the original language (this is sometimes to be found in the front). I promise that I won’t criticise your source or anything of the sort – I am just genuinely curious.

    Skanderbeg,

Serious? **** i didnt know that?? Maybe KLA even killed more Albanians than Serbs did?! Maybe the Serb army was there to protect us Albanians!! So..thats why NATO started bombing KLA!?!?!…..WRONG!!

As for Kosova, none of you should bother talking about it because no one knows about it better than me. I lived there until the end of the war. So far, the only one who actually said anything truthful about Kosova is Kapedani. He’s just saying the way it is.

Just check the indictments in the ICTY in the Hague for members of the KLA.

What did I say in there thats BS?? Care to be more specific??

Pretty much everything you said about Trepca being the most important mine in Europe without which nobody would have batteries or lead… 😉

There are books written on that in Serbia…I’m sure…they even made books written in Albanian on the Trepca mines (made in Yugoslavia…in Albanian). I have one…would you like it? Its in Albanian though so I’m sure you’r going to disregard it as “biased” (until you read where it was published)

Where some book is published is neither here nor there – could you tell me the sources you used for your information please. You know, I hope we aren’t going to enter into another cycle of me asking for your sources and you saying that sources exist. Maybe this time you can just tell me where you get your figures when I ask for them first time round (second now already).

    I can’t help it…I’m evil…

Probably not evil, just heavily biased and prejudiced. If you can’t see why your gross subjectivity invalidates a lot of your arguments and information there is no point in me trying to explain it to you.

Once more…if by 2000 only 200 were produced of which 100 were used in tests…how many do you think were in service with any operational wing in the RuAF?? I don’t think it leaves room for much.

Many members on this forum would benefit greatly from the realisation that Russia in 2006 is not Russia in 1998, 1999 or 2000. In 2000 Russia was still recovering from a massive economic collapse and funding for all branches of the military (and military industrial complex) was only starting to increase after being at a crippling low. The budget has now been increasing healthily, for e.g. 2005 was the first year in which procurement for the Russian armed forces exceeded export sales – this is expected to be repeated this year.

I heard that Serbia is going to overhaul 2000 R-60 missiles for India

    Where did you hear that?

Why?? You actually thought they cared about the Serbs living there??

Oh shut up Kapedani. Albania and Kosovo are a total embarrassing shambles and the KLA killed more ethnic Albanians than any other nationality and you have the cheek to make snide comments about Serbia’s government?

Trepca was a lot more than mines…it used to provide about half of Europe with batteries of all kinds…not to mention zink, coal, lead, cadmium, gold, silver and many others…this was without a doubt one of the…if not the…most profitable business in Yugoslavia.

Histroically its been so as well…it provided Rome with most of its gold and silver…it provided Germany with 40% of its lead in WW2 and its batteries. This is not small patatoes.

The point was…how much of this money was going to Kosova?? Almost none. You can’t compare it to Macedonia or the mountains of Montenegro or the rural areas of Bosnia…they had nothing to begin with…Kosova had Mitrovica.

Because much of this sounds like BS (much like, if you don’t mind me saying, other information you post) and so I’d like to know the sources of your information please.
