Correction: Not 10-12 million bucks but 10million Euros (=12million bucks).

Serbia and Montenegro has allocated €10 million ($12 million) this year to overhaul and modernise its five MiG-29 fighters and overhaul one Antonov An-26 transport, says defence minister Zoran Stankovic. To take place in Russia, the MiG-29 upgrade is expected to add new communication, navigation and identification equipment to enable the aircraft to participate in multinational exercises.
Apparently the ministry is setting aside $10-12million a year for the refurb. (From Flight International?) Frankly, if you ask me, there isn’t any point.
But at least you understand what I meant right?
crobato, I didn’t mean to suggest that what you wrote was unclear in anyway. I understood it (I’m actually ok with FLANKER designations). It just occured to me just how erm… wacky… they often are.
It appears that the answer to my question is a ‘no’. At least that is the assumption I am forced to make.
VIRAGE,
I’m curious. Could you please post more info about how much trouble the PAK-FA project is in? Everything I’ve read recently points to quite the opposite but then I haven’t taken much of an interest in the PAK-FA recently so I guess I’m one of those ‘experts’ with skindeep knowledge.
For that reason, you cannot “SM”-ize the Su-27UB, as much as you cannot “KN”-ize the Su-27S. In order to upgrade both single and double seaters, the bottomline is you will have to have Su-27SMs simultaneously with Su-27UBMs in the same fleet.
😀 FLANKER designations sound like a foreign language 😀
I’m neither a muslim nor am I Danish… And so; I don’t care! I really don’t give a damn. Not even a little bit. Unless the Saudis are about to send an army to destroy those Danish infedels or the Danes are about to start behaving like Vikings by sending an army to the Middle East.
You see, the reason I don’t care, has partly to do with the fact that this is the army forum and threads about pointless debates like this do not belong here.

I’ve finally got round to playing Operation Flashpoint and I love it! There were a few teething problems as I tried to set it up correctly for my computer and I was a bit disappointed by the graphics 🙁 … But its great really in spite of those negatives. I’ve only done a couple of missions (I keep getting killed) but already I’m hooked! I love that mission where you and your squad take the village and kill the Ruskies then have to run away from the T-80s. Man tanks are hard! They must have killed me 4 or 5 times! I love it!

NEW DELHI, February 2 (RIA Novosti) – Russia and India are working on contracts worth about $10 billion in the sphere of military and technical cooperation, a senior Russian official said Thursday.
Vyacheslav Dzirkali, the deputy director of the Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation, said Russia was one of the main players on the Indian arms market, continuing cooperation that dates back to Soviet times. Dzirkali is heading the Russian delegation at the Defexpo India 2006 exhibition of land and naval arms systems.
“In the past five years, Russia has exported military hardware worth more than $7 billion to India,” Dzirkali said. In particular, Russia has supplied Su-30MKI Flanker multirole fighters, Mi-17 Hip transport helicopters, Ka-31 ship-borne helicopters and other combat hardware, the Russian official said.
Um… Err… $10bn? What are the Indians spending $10bn on? Could this be a hint at cooperation on the PAK-FA project or is that just my wishful thinking.
No. It won’t ever be built. Russia dont have the money.
You know it isn’t 1998 anymore. Russia’s economy is growing pretty fast and looks to grow even faster if they manage to wriggle their way into the WTO. Russia is the world’s 4th largest oil exporter and the largest exporter of natural gas. The money that is coming in from these energy exports is often going in to manufacturing industries and other development investments. Russia’s strategic reserves are probably amongst the largest in the world. Last year the procurement budget for the Russian armed forces exceeded military export sales.
PAK-FA will be late. It will be over-budget. But it will get built. Its worth remembering that the Russians started researching and developing technologies for a fifth gen fighter years ago and that both Sukhoi and MiG have produced airframes whose sole purpose is to test and evaluate technologies that will go to the PAK-FA.
Something like this?
Now thats what I’m talkin’ about!
Thanks for the advice coanda. I was hoping, however, for a little more than just tiny little iron bombs. 😉
Any good pictures of FENCERs stacked with bombs?
Swerve,
Maybe, but India could have had Su-24s in service 20 years before a nuclear missile able to hit anywhere in China the Chinese government would care about
Good point.
