I doubt that the FENCER would represent a significant improvement in India’s deterent against China. Nuclear missiles are surely the only true deterent India can posess if thinking about threats from its northern neighbour.

    Garry & Barnowl,

Thanks for your reviews. I’m really looking forward to monday (apparently the day it will arrive). Probably I’ll end up playing it all day and get no work done whatsoever 🙁 .

    Garry,

I expect that I’ll probably get all the upgrade packages that you’ve mentioned if I like the basic game enough (and it sounds like I will). Unfortunately I really am skint at the moment so I can’t go around making hasty purchases 🙁 🙁 – hence this thread.

I decided not to go for anything WWII based in the end (even though avoiding WWII based games was quite difficult – hardly anything else seems to get made). A copy of Operation Flashpoint (- Game of the Year Edition) is currently winging its way to me. I’ll let you guys know what I think of it.

    PS Thanks Barnowl.

    Barnowl,

You want Operation Flashpoint mate- about a tenner now WITH EXPANSION PACK, one hit kills for both your foe and yourself, set in a hypothetical US vs USSR environment in the 1980’s, decent graphics, amazing realism and great fun.

Sounds perfect! Especially the £10 price tag (I’m skint at the moment). But does it have an online multiplayer feature?

Thanks for your replies guys. I’m still mulling over the options.

    cloud_9,

This is such an old game, but have you tried Half Life

I think I had a demo of it years ago. Isn’t it about some scientist who has to fight his way out of a lab thats been taken over by mutants? I liked it but I’m looking for something more… err… realistic?

Yea I played eve… Got bored eventually because it takes so long to do anything… Now I’m looking for something fast paced, quick to play etc etc. Something more stress-relieving than eve.

When you have a maso-feeling, just not realized the deeper sense, please delete ‘we’, just to do no unjustice to those, not sharing your feelings about that.

Jesus Sens! Were you at home sticking pins into a voodoo-GarryB-doll during the Great Sense of Humour Handout? Lighten up.

GarryB: I guess we know each other’s opinion by now. I think that your points are that of a militaristic MiG-happy guy, but they are your points. You seem to think in outdated frames, comparing tanks and fighters and crying for every MiG that goes out of service because it might deliver the deciding bomb on the bl00dy Western society (and we all deserve it, don’t we?). Everybody wants to attack Russia, sure. China, the West, the US Navy and after all even the terrorists. So build more army, train more soldiers! Russia has to understand that keeping huge forces by itself is a provocation to its direct neighbors (not talking about USA).

If nobody minds I’m going to come to Garry’s defense for a sec here:

The reason his attitude seems so militaristic is that he’s fighting a backlog of anti-Russian propaganda as long as the trans-Siberian railway. Even to say something relatively objective (like that its in Russia’s interest to maintain a nuclear deterent or that the Russians are working hard to fix the problems their armed forces have had over the years) has everybody up in arms comparing him to Stalin and whatnot. The fact is that Garry tends to be anti-western only in the sense that he doesn’t shy away from pointing out the hypocracies of western (particularly US) foreign policy and all the bllcks that go with it. Also, he works quite hard to dispell some of the myths and propaganda that circulates around anything Russian. Fair play to him I say. To call him MiG-happy and militaristic because of that does go a little too far in my opinion.

(and we all deserve it, don’t we?).

Yes we bloody well do! :diablo:
