    Sauron,

Having a rant at people for being former ‘commies’ isn’t going to get you very far with your new allies; Ukraine and Poland… They’re both sending significant numbers of troops to Iraq as we speak.

Incidentally, I spoke to a couple of Ukranians yesterday and happened to ask what they thought of their country deploying troops to Iraq. They hadn’t heard about it until I mentioned it and, after a moment of confusion where they thought I meant that Ukrainian troops were going “to fight Americans”, they said “no, no, no, no, very bad”.

As for Alex’s anti-Americanism, it seems to me no worse that the anti-French sentiments of a few US posters on here and I’d like to voice my dislike of both forms of expression – although I appreciate the right of people to voice their views so long as they are not too offensive.

    US Agent,

    “At least their not FRENCH!”

For somebody how so ardently defends all things American I would expect you to have a better command of your own language.

As for the number of “Allies” America has – don’t be fooled, the people of these nations are still largely against the attack and occupation of Iraq, it just so happens that the US government is very lucky to have the politicians on their side.

    Geforce,

“Living in Europe today, it’s difficult to imagine being threatened by your neighbouring countries.”

You are giving people a wrong impression of Europe. Greece and Turkey are in Europe, the Balkans are in Europe, the Baltic States still get nervous about Russia and Georgia recently made it its forgeign policy aim to get into the EU… These countries can all easily imagine being threatened by their neighbours.

If we’re talking economic mass (i.e. the sizre of the economy including GDP and turnover) then the order is:

    USA
    Japan
    Germany
    UK
    …….

But in reality this doesn’t actually show us very much and also, the Eurozone is the world’s largest economy (except it doesn’t really function like a national or federal economy yet). Also, the list is expected to change soon – Germany will fall behind the UK and China will overtake Germany….

All of my information comes from a friend of mine who recently graduated from the LSE – I personally know **ck all about economics.

In the event of a serious fire-fight will the Nigerian AF be able to offer its troops any kind of air-support? If yes, what assets do they have within reaching distance of their troops? Will they be deploying any helicopters capable of providing CAS?

Sorry guys, I’m a little ignorant about the Nigerian AF.

    pendennis,

You were old enough and wily enough to realise that the Soviet film was propaganda yet too young to realise that the same was true for similar British and American films?
