I feel the same way about Hatfield! It seems to be the curse of Aircraft Factorys. People will drone on endlessly about a grass strip that saw 6 months of use in World War Two and nothing for ground breaking Factorys! Never mind…

    I couldn’t agree more.

as a youngster I can recall seeing a few Tridents flying but mostly BAE 146’s

I get the general impression that this country is ashamed of its past achievements.

I did see the Catalina flying today ( I can see a lot of Duxford traffic from my work).

It was a pleasant site to see.

I did notice that there was quite a few movements today.
Various types of aircraft in the sky today.

    Hello all

With the potential addition of 3 airworthy european based FW190 A’s this summer (Dijion, Bremgarten and fighter factory) what are the chances of the Uk based example finally taking to the skies?

What a summer that would be…..

I would appear that ‘Aircraft Restoration Company’ is trying to get their FW190 certified to fly.

    I can’t wait.

Please feel free to correct me but I thought there was only one comet racer and it is located in the Shuttleworth collection near Biggleswade.

I have not ever seen it fly, I suspect the runway length could be an issue.

Thanks everyone for a really interesting thread.
This is my first posting and I signed up on the basis of this thread.

I have learn’t more in this thread than I ever knew.

I only recently learn’t where the Manor Road site existed ( I thought it was a completely different site).

It is a great shame that only the hanger and control tower (and a few other buildings) exist today.
The Hatfield site achieved so much with great people and yet we only have a few road names to remember this by.

The Comet springs to mind for a start.

I wonder what is going to happen to the south-west side of the site.
It would be nice if the Dehavilland Museum (near St. Albans) should set up site in this section.

I know that it would not happen as it would appear that this country is ashamed of its aero heritage.

Some previous posters have commented at moving to the Stevenage site ( now BAE I believe), what happened there ?

If anyone has more pictures / stories, please post.
    This is really interesting.
