No Kites?!? Damn! 🙁
Great shots, Matt.
Basically, no. No scanners will.
You are in a sealed metal tube which will attenuate the majority of external transmissions. Yes there are windows of course and this will allows some signals in especially if your on the ground, but once airborne in reality don’t expect to hear anything much apart from the strongest of signals.
Being picky you shouldn’t really have your scanner on when the seatbelt sign is on anyway as techincally it is could be classed as a kind of transmitting device along similar lines to portable TVs etc, in that it could have one or more local oscillators within its circuitry which will transmit some interference no matter how good the screening is.
Great shots!
It’s nice to see another A388 in the UK skies…
Great shots, especially the first!
Thanks for the info. I would have thought that the A340-600 would be CATIII and the pilots trained to that standard as well so why the diversion? Or was it because of the traffic buildup due to the weather and fuel was the issue?
I imagine it was the holding time, which in turn was a fuel problem.
A couple of images before the crash,

Great selection from an airport that we don’t see frequently!
I do agree about the pole in the last image… But still a great shot!
Careless indeed, and if they didn’t tell anyone they deserve everything they get!
The pilot not flying usually does the walk-around (whether it be the C or FO), for the airlines where I have contacts within… It maybe different elsewhere.
The primary reason aircraw do walkrounds is so say “look at me, I’m a pilot”!!!
Next time you see an aircrew walkround notice:
1. The speed they do it (A brisk trot)
2. the distance they are away from the aircraft (Never closer than ten feet)
Far from it… I’m sure Deano can give you the full once over about what they do.
A walk around is quite intensive, and requires a trained eye to do it efficiently. Take a look at these two videos,

There are various factors which are taken into consideration when planning a route and cruising altitude.
Cracking shots, especially the second!
The new Qantas A380 TV ad is pretty good too, I just spotted it on TV minutes ago. Somwehat reminiscent of the days when BA would advertise their new ‘Concorde’ services…
Yeah I saw it the other day, another great Ad…
Let the trend continue!
Has anyone seen EK’s new add? I thought that was rather nice too.
EDIT: Not that new apparently (all though i’ve only ever seen it once, and that was this month).

I think it sells Dubai more than EK, but great none-the-less. (Or maybe that was the idea, they’re many quotes out there saying, ‘The future of EK is Dubai, and the future of Dubai is EK’.
Love the Kuwait 777,makes those engines look even bigger from this angle
It sure does, a superb shot!
I’m liking the avatar as well, btw. 😎
Good Morning,
I personally would have liked to see this discussion ended, but you seem to have that much of a problem with my post and attitude, I feel obliged to comment… again!
Your arrogant, patronising attitude is getting boring, Sam. I know for a fact many agree.
Sort yourself out. You’re annoying more people than you realise.
Paul
I could of personally came back with something very similar – but where would that get me? I’d personally be more worried if my best friend had a problem with me, rather than a few people on a forum – where every message is interpreted how the reader likes, and not necessarily how is intended and would be perceived if it was a face-to-face conversation.
The comment was made in the best interest so Danny, and anyone else who was either unsure, or didn’t know, would be provided with the correct information. I didn’t phrase the sentence in a patronizing way, but in a way which was pleasant. It suggested that if Danny (and anyone else) wants to take on board what has been said, great and i’ve mealy provided him with the correct information to an incorrect statement – does everything out of the stereotypical ‘great shots’ have to go via you to see if you agree? No… you’re not a mod, and if they have a problem with me, then i’d be more than happy to receive a message.
If this topic was in regards to music, you’d be the first one to correct the error, but I guess that’s OK, as it’s your knowledge rather than anyone else’s. If the comment was made in a correct manor, fantastic – it benefits everyone. If someone had posted a guitar related topic and gotten some basic guitar trivia incorrect, such as two guitar strings the wrong way around (such as D and G), can you honestly say that you’d leave a comment without bring up the small mistake, if phrased in a way such as FYI (for your information) that does not require a response (or action) from the recipient?
I could write paragraph after paragraph about the above, but i’m going to keep it short and sweet.
I fail to see what’s wrong with a small correction, and I feel it’s more your recent vendetta against me – unlike you, I wouldn’t post something like that in a public forum, but rather in a private discussion such as a PM or email.
Lets get this topic back on track!
Sam
This is great news of EGCN, hopefully it’ll be a brighter year for them in 2009.
Never seen the Amsterdam Airlines before, nice shot. How long they been around?
‘Amsterdam Airlines is a Dutch airline founded in 2007. Amsterdam Airlines provides both charter and wet lease services.
The aircraft returned to Amsterdam on 24 Dec following two months of Hajj flying when the aircraft was based in ((Jeddah)) and ((Medina)).
The aircraft will remain in Amsterdam over the Christmas period, there is a possibility the aircraft may return to Air Vallee on an ACMI basis in the new year.’
