MH,
Full day is great at AMS, plenty of food, plenty of fluid (of the alc variety) and of course one or two aircraft thrown in to the equation.
Talking of getting lost, we struck very lucky as we got a bus from the arrivals area as the taxi drivers didnt seem to want to take us on such a short trip, im sure you know the ones, all airports have them. We got dropped by McDonalds on the far side of the airport and wandered aimlessly back along the cycle track at the side of the runway.
Unfortunatley the aircraft (eg MD-11’s) were rotating along way down the runway from here,( prob a good mile) so we set off walking.
After about 800 yds we came across what i can only assume was some form of storage yard for redundant escalators and airport baggage vehicles, along with various other pieces of knackered airport machinery. The gate was open and end of the path looked an absoloutley fantastic vantage point for photographs. That was until the Dutch chappie in the digger decided he could speak english and explain that it was private property and what were we doing here…we exited by the gate behind us…damn. In a bizarre twist, the feeling of being stuck 3km from where we began soon disappeared as I had the audacity to ask a guy in a portakabin (which I was later to find out was a control room for the taxis) how to get back to the terminal. He then stated that he was going that way and he would give us a lift….it even turned out to be free of charge….wonderful chap who spoke like the dutch guy from the austin powers movie..
So within 45 mins we were back in the terminal….oh well c’est la vie
Thanks for the commenst guys….most appreciated
good shots there Peter – love the reflection on the EK
Keep up the good work
