My WOW moment? It came on the 8 August, standing on a platform at the end of the Coningsby runway so I could see over the fence, in a terrific thunderstorm and seeing the Mynarski Lancaster appearing out of the gloom, when all other planes were confined to the ground. The tears in my eyes were not rain! Although the same feelings came on the other occasions I saw them, but especially at the old RCAF airfield that hosts the Little Gransden airshow. A fantastic summer, with the fantastic sight and sound of 12 Merlins singing together at East Kirkby being hard to beat – I’m glad I was there. Thanks are not enough to convey the feelings of the many thousands who witnessed their displays and for the gratitude to those who didn’t come back during WWII. Thanks guys!

Perhaps he will also get his ex-Strathallan Mosquito back in the air, too. He gave a display in Hamilton, Ontario when he brought it to N America and it remains etched in my mind’s eye as one of the best. Good luck to him and hope his dream does finally come true.

Now that the Lancaster is coming, can we persuade the owners of the Mosquito to come as well? What a sound the 10 Merlins would make on a flypast!!!

Just Jane lit up by the field lights, like is done on Bonfire Night, is always a good start.
With exposures around 2-3 seconds, it would also be good if the reenactors would stand still for a while, rather than continuously moving.
And, of course, no sign of any vehicles or anything to give away the date!

Now that Easter 2011 has gone, does anyone know if the Mosquito flew at the airshow in Auckland as predicted? If so, when is it coming to the UK? The last time I saw one fly was in Canada when Kermit Weekes brought the Strathallan Mossie to the States – and that was a sight I’ll never forget when he flew it into Hamilton, Ontario on the way!
