The Indian air force may or may not believe that there is a better processor available from a Western supplier but the indigenously developed Indian product will always be the first choice, wouldn’t it?
Ruaf has alrelady declared Su-27SM as superior to any other exported flanker in 2004. so whats the point of discussing?
Because, on the whole, it was the best aircraft on offer, probably equally as good as the Euro-canards and a lot cheaper. I don’t doubt that for one minute, but the Indians obviously decided that some of the original avionics had to go.
India also upgraded MIG-21 with radar/R-77. Do u think Ruaf should also do the same?
I wonder how you manage to demarcate the different percentages? looks pretty screwed up to me. Try to define those percentages – which 1%, which 40%…?
I don’t want to start a willy waving contest (but you always seem to reply to other peoples’ posts like as if it were) – but I’d say the most modern fighter radars in Russian service today are the presumably developed versions of NOO1 series on the 2 dozen or so Su-27SMs in RuAF service, followed by the Soviet era BARS that have been exported. In the case of the USA it would probably be the APG-77 on the 100 or so F-22s… I rest my case.
The most modern are MIG-31 upgrades and this Su-34 true multirole.
http://en.rian.ru/analysis/20080417/105299816.html
The Su-34 aircraft can also fly without electronic warfare support planes, because it has electronic interference equipment.
Units armed with such aircraft can be used in the so-called pendulum operations, when an Air Force unit bombs a terrorist base in Central Asia today, delivers a strike at a missile base in Europe the next day, and three days later flies to the Indian Ocean to support a combined group of the Northern, Pacific and Black Sea fleets, with the flights made from a base in Russia.
The Su-34 aircraft has long-range precision weapons, can fly hugging the earth, and have a high level of protection, which should cut losses during lightning operations, while the use of a relatively small number of such aircraft allows training crews to perfection.
Plus, a simple gander at the cooling and power requirements shows how ridiculous the idea of a 20K AESA setup on the Tu series is.
There is not linear relationship for power/coolling/space. Flanker nose 20% bigger than Fulcrum at most but will carry 100% more T/R modules.
This thing is getting smaller very fast. Earlier APG-63V2 weighs 500lb antenna which is reduced to 250lbs in V3 and it is going even further down.
MIG-35 is 300lbs that they want to bring into 220lbs

Yes its the max range with tanks and CFTs, but at subsonic speeds not at mach 1.5.
Lighter F-15C has more range than F-15E. If F-22 is heaveir than F-15E i wont be surprized if F-15C fly more in subsonic missions with occaisonal supersonic for BVR.

ever heard about the deal that American Airline got? They are getting gas for $55 a barrel right now. That’s what you get if you run your finances properly.
so do u think with $55 per barrel oil they didnot increase airfares in past 4 years?
and Oil is not the only component of Aircraft operating costs just like labor is not the only component of Gorskhov cost.
It is far fetched. Russia doesn’t even have an AESA in service and you’re hypothesizing some future tech. Why not just say a bazillion-module AESA?
the same firm that is producing AESA for MIG-35 is also supplying to Almaz-Antei and than to Ships. I dont see why it will not be applied to Strategic bombers .
He said “20,000 T/R AESA in nose”
An array 10 times the area of the one in an F-22. In the nose of a Blackjack. Yes, it’s far fetched.
It isnt far fetched. you have to modify the nose for AESA radar anyway. and than GaNs based AESA will be 4 to 5 times smaller. when u have that kind of power locking on Stealth aircraft will not be a problem at hundreds of km. and u can potentially make 1000 to 2000KG class BVR missile against tankers/AWACS that can hit them at thousands of kms. It is like airborne heavy SAM system. It can also act as AWACS due large scanning area. and i wont be surprized when new Russian bomber adopt this concept.
it continuously amaze me that you show such little knowledge of finances and modern commercial practice.
Ever heard of hedging your investment? Obviously not and the Russians clearly haven’t either.
surely i do but hedging in this case will never work. It is one off unique project. No commercial entity can hedge against such dramatic rise in prices/currency fluctuataion thats why Airlines have either to massively increase the ticket prices or go bankrupt.
You might want to tell them that. They probably have rather more than 1,000 tanks already operationally deployed to the various wars they are playing at at the moment.
.
There is no 1000 tanks operationally deployed anywhere. They are just parked with occaisonaly use. they cannot be used continously in high tempo war.
Looool let me guess put a long range missile and radar on the MiG-25 or SR-71 and you would consider them 5th generation fighters as well:rolleyes:
Where is the damn ROFL smiley here?
Provided u can maitain such force. Ideally Tu-160 with 20,000 T/R AESA in nose and 100 BVR missile will be ideal but still it wont have acceleration, turning circle and wide deployment of MIG-31. MIG-31 is perfect example of efficiency/capability.
It may be twice as much cash, but for a brand new, much larger, much more capable carrier. The fact is that Gorshkov is going to cost less to buy, but more to run, and more to maintain. They have obviously never heard of whole life costing, i.e. recognising that short term savings on a project can actually turn out to be worthless when the project ends up costing more over time.
They have certainly made the logical decision. Just wait for cost over runs for CVF.
I think we (with some exceptions) agree on the following:
– The Russians, whether deliberately or not, quoted a massively underestimated cost for the project.
It is just more than 50% increase in ruble/dollar exchange, more than 1000% in wage growth and 400% change in steel/energy prices that change the context.
– The Indians should have recognised this when conducting due dilligence.
Even if they had done the due diligence. you cannot ignore such a big change in economic reality.
– The project has ended up massively over budget and delayed.
$1B in aircraft carrier projects is peanuts.
– It is likely that the resulting carrier compares unfavourably with its alternatives, e.g. a European-built carrier, or an accelerated IAC.
– The resulting carrier, despite the refurbishment, will end up costing a lot to run, and may still end up costing more to complete.
No European carrier can give them Supersonic antiship/antiradiation missile strike power of MIG-29K nor the offered upgrade of 3D TVC. There is option of further MIG-29K.
– The Russians are risking upsetting the Indian defence officials.
Nope. Indian defence officials have accepted the reality.
Well when it comes to supersonic cruise performance he is right. But the MiG-31 is also not in the same class as the F-22. That’s very much apples and oranges. The question for the Su-35 is mainly in which configuration can it supercruise, how fast and for what period of time. The achieved mach 1.1 (I know they had to cancel further acceleration) in a clean configuration is not what I would call impressive or operationally useful.
BTW what do you expect from a manufacturers pilot to say about the competition?
Well MIG-31 has longest range radar, longest range BVR missile, highest sustain speed, highest speed range with height. We havent figured out the upgraded engines and lighter avionics on MIG-31BM. So the rightly claim that it is 5th generaton class.
Pilot is describing first flight Su-35. I am sure EF does not went supersonic in first flight without afterburners. and he is describing overall consensuse of Sukhoi specialist that F-18E is closest competitor (may be overall Strike potential/Radar performance).
Star, can you post the link to the Russian article? That huge wall of text seems to be online translated.

.
The CFE treaty limits European countries to specific numbers of tanks, APCs, attack helos, and artillery. In every category there was a balance between the Warsaw Pact and NATO. As countries changed from the WP to NATO they took their allocation of weapons with them. Currently the Russians are allowed about 6,000 tanks in European Russia. Compare that to the 36,000 NATO and the Ukraine are allowed… not to mention the countries that weren’t in NATO or the WP and can have as many items as they want.
36000 tanks are better to be in storage for there own good. NATO simply does not have money and gas to moblize more than 1000 tanks at most. Tanks does not move by itself it needs huge logistic supply chain. while Russia already occupies part of Georgia and can very easily take control of that pipeline. Similar case is with Eastern Ukraine and Crimea. they are increasing there presence to 100 ships and 25000 sailors. Norway will not be able explore further oil if Russia put ban on them and has already practice exercise near to oil platforms. Simple point Russia controls too many choking points of World Economy/transportation links/natural resources that make conventional war unwinnable.
I dont think any mobilizaiton in EU is possible with these kind of leaders.

Zbignev Bzhezinski: “Russia tends to destabilize Georgia to take control over Baku-Ceyhan pipeline
Well atleast Su-35 Pilot does not consider EF performance in same category as F-22/MIG-31. In first flight it went supersonic without afterburner.
vpk-news.ru
The first flight was carried out with the tracking: together with Su-35 into air it rose Su-30[MK]. This made possible to compare the characteristics of aircraft. When I carried out acceleration in the maximum nonafterburning regime, for the pilot of escort aircraft it was necessary to use an afterburner. However, in this case it sometimes lagged. Certainly, here is manifested dependence on the indices of the pick-up of power plant and on that how pilot governs RUD. Nevertheless in the flights it was noticeable that Su-35 it possesses large margin of thrust and larger acceleration shows. The detailed analysis of the executed flights at present occurs. For me a question concerning the results of extreme flight thus far remains open. In it was conducted the evaluation of starting characteristics Su-35. Interesting special feature is noted. Preliminary analysis shows that at the medium altitudes, with the work of engines on the nonafterburning regime the aircraft, being found on the small super-sound, continued to drive away. In the process of acceleration the aircraft left to the Mach number M-1,1. However, I did not reach the maximum speed of level flight, since he left to the boundary of the permitted band of supersonic flight and it was forced to return to “[dozvuk]”.
The impression is created with the analysis of extreme flight in me, that with the specific fuel remainders, at the specific aircraft altitudes flies on “the super-sound” with the regime of the work of engines “maximum”. For us still one must accurately determine the weight of aircraft and the altitude-speed range, where is possible “super-cruising” flight conditions (super of cruise – supersonic flight without the use of an afterburner, of all series fighters it they possess only MiG-31 and F -22a Of raptor. – Editor’s notes).
Continuing conversation about the merits Su-35, should be noted increased to 20% it almost stored up fuel in the internal capacities. This is major step forward in comparison with the base Su-27 and Su-30. As a result flying range will increase substantially. On my assumptions, based on the flight test data, the flying range will comprise to 4,5 thousand km certainly, precise number will be determined according to the flight-test results. Still something it is necessary to look, to verify, attentively to estimate. Most likely, the presence of the engines of the increased thrust will allow machine to have higher cruising ceiling. But flying range even more will grow due to this. But for us still one must verify this in the course of tests.
– With which of the foreign fighters it is possible to compare Su-35?
– I will express the opinion of the specialists of the firm “of dry”: Su-35 exceeds all “mirages”, “[Gripen]”, “Hornet”, “typhoon” and “[Rafal]”. From the recently modified aircraft the closest competitor – F/A-18E/F “super- Hornet”.
– Into service by USAF (United States Air Force) enters the fighter of the fifth generation F -22a Of raptor. It can Su-35 fight with this machine?
– I will say as follows: “[Reptoru]” we successfully resist. In this case the price for the series Su-35 must be substantially below. On the relationship “price- quality” our aircraft traditionally occupy the leading positions in the world. New Su-35 them will noticeably strengthen. Creation of this aircraft – very serious breakthrough.
– It is considered that Su-35 – to the larger degree “computer” aircraft. Is it possible to say that with its creation was required the high degree of finalizing on the stands, than the previous models of the fighters of model “sou”?
I will answer as follows: computer – this is tool. With its aid we, in particular, attained the high stability parameters and controllability, maneuverability. Of aircraft can be disposed so well with the aid of the powerful steering computers that at the output we have the highest controllability in all regimes.
My subjective opinion – the degree of finalizing on the stands substantially it grew. The previous aircraft had elements of mechanical control run, to so that model some things with their creation was into something more complex. Su-35 has the remote control, realized along all channels. Here, as the saying goes, “aircraft itself” gave great opportunity for the deeper bench study than the previous machines. Here general approach is such: “on the aircraft” everything must be similar is with the fact that obtained “on the computer”. Due to larger “the intellect of board” it proved to be possible to very in detail work many questions in the stage of the design of aircraft and ground-based finalizing of its systems. That also was confirmed in the course of the flight tests: i any questions with the behavior of aircraft in the real flights did not have.
Being repulsed from her own work experience with the specialists of design bureau “dry”, I can assert that they very competent, with decent experience, accumulated with the work on the previous machines. Especially it is desirable to note the colleagues of the division of aerodynamics of Pavel [Moskalev] and Alexander [Zasovin], and also veteran of firm – Yuri Ilyich [Shenfinkelya]. When we examined and tried different regimes on Su-35, me always had herself sheer confidence to the fact that these specialists make. The result of their work it is present: the correspondence of the results, obtained on the stands and the real flights, proved to be very high. As far as strictly the nomenclature of the stands, on which it was perfected Su-35, is concerned, they are in many respects similar to the analogous in Su-30[MKI]. Specially for Su-35 in OKB were created stands for testing and finalizing of software of a nucleus of aircraft – information manager of system.
In comparison with other aircraft Su-35 [s] grow prettier side it ” astonishes” pilot, pleasant impression leaves. Especially from the point of view of the work of control system. If pilots must compulsorily consider some special features of the behavior of other aircraft during the piloting, then Su-35 itself “[integrirovanno] approaches” all regimes due to the more powerful artificial intellect. Aircraft is received as very comfortable: “soft”, in also the time very obedient, with the excellent transient responses, is energetic while maneuvering.
For example, if pilot takes aircraft control stick “to himself”, selecting complete motion, then instead of “the throw” occurs rapid, but smooth output to the large pitch angles, without “the throw”. As we know from the theory of control systems, the greater the response time, the greater the overregulation. However, on Su-35 because of the powerful artificial intellect its creators attain the high speed operation and at the same time of aperiodic output to the assigned parameter. This is realized both in the transverse and in the longitudinal channel.
– Which Su-35 will give for VVS of Russia? Will give it new qualities and possibilities? Will make it necessary its entering by the armament to change the practice of combat training?
– Concerning new qualities, I answer “yes”. New moment – use of the controlled thrust vector, which substantially increases safety of the execution of flights. Aircraft not “does fall down”, it is governed practically at any speeds. The aircraft of system do not possess such possibilities. And they do not obtain them during the modernization. The absence of thrust vector does not make possible for the modernized aircraft of system to be governed at the ultralow speeds in the manner that this it makes Su-35. I consider that this is the substantial argument in favor of the purchases of new fighters for VVS of Russia.
The increased thrust-weight ratio improves the characteristics of acceleration. The detachment of aircraft on the takeoff occurs earlier. Furthermore, due to the outstanding starting characteristics to pilot Su-35 more easily to leave from the enemy or to reduce to it distance. Add to this the increased flying range, and also the circumstance that airborne radar detects purposes at the long range, locks on at the large removal, making it possible to strike enemy on the distant boundaries. The list of merits Su-35 it is possible to continue even further.
It is important for the pilots that the new aircraft not only excellently maneuvers under conditions “super-maneuverability”, but also in the relatively simple flight conditions, with the output to the low speeds – 200 km/h and less. Usual pilot, with the classical understanding of flight, behavior Su-35 astonishes, in the pleasant sense of word “it shocks”.
I consider that from the point of view of piloting in combatant pilots in principle there must not appear problems with the retraining on Su-35. I will say according to my experience that when pilots, previously flown on MiG-29 and Su-27, begin to pilot the aircraft of the generation “4+”, they are strongly surprised what Su-35 can carry out during the maneuvering. New aircraft simply is by an order better Su-27 – aircraft, which obtained wide acknowledgement in the world for its splendid qualities.
The Russians will never be able to take on NATO conventionally again, but they can always maintain stability with a nuclear force able to assure MAD against anyone.
Russia is already much powerful than NATO conventionally. For large scale conventional war u need to economic system, geography and natural resources to fight sustain war.
Russia has now monoply over EU economy. where do u think all those Lufthansa hub and overflights to Asia going through.

Testing New Fighter Jet Is Successful
Sukhoi Design Bureau is testing a new multipurpose jet Su-35, and the tests are successful, test pilot Sergei Bogdan announced in the interview with the Military & Industrial Courier edition. Thirteen flights have been made, Bogdan specified.
Even the first flights of Su-35 confirmed the excellent flying and technical characteristics of the jet, and were completely in line with the stand tests.Stability and controllability of Su-35 was evaluated at the altitude of up to 11,000 meters. The fighter was accelerated up to the speed corresponding to the Mach number of 1.3.
In terms of tactical and technical characteristics, Bogdan went on, a new jet leaves behind most of the foreign analogues, including F/A-18 Hornet, Mirage, Rafale, Gripen and Typhoon and is capable of opposing the G5 fighter F-22A Raptor.
The bulk production and supplies of new jets to the RF Air Force and overseas customers are slated for 2010-2011.
