ANother one.
Sorry to interrupt but, that bird is so rare, why isn’t she under cover?
I took the photo about 40 years ago, when it was being used as a Scouts’ bunkhouse at Lasham.
I saw it only last week and it’s in great condition indoors, at Duxford. 🙂
Twice the noise with 4!
Lost one after landing…:p
This had 4 engines too, unless you count the Vipers, in which case 6 engines…
Another 4 engined Lockheed, but with nose crop…
Or City of Edinburgh as it was when it finally died.
But they looked nicer in an earlier scheme…
Another Russian?
A dummy Bristol Babe.
Here’s one I took earlier today… P-51D Mustang at Old Warden.
I’m afraid I can’t tell you 😀
Yes to the last question! My recollection during the late 40s early 50s was 7/6 for round the airport and 10/6 up the Thames to Tower Bridge and back. Those flights would have been 1948/9 and then 1950/51. 10/6 is about £17 at today’s values so still incredibly cheap. Classic Flight charge £39 for their Rapide flights, I think.
When I had my flight in a Rapide at LAP, it was from the central area, where Terminal 1 now stands. I’m pretty sure it was 7/6d. Apart from the reservoirs, I can’t honestly say where the flight took me. It must have been around 1955 when I had my trip.
I too visited LAP to see the competitors for the England to Australia air race. I remember seeing the Canberra, but always assumed it was an RAF one. There was a Viscount too and I think a Hastings?
Re-the Brabazon. Yes, I saw it…apparently… My mother says I was being pushed in a pram when it approached LAP from the Hayes direction.
Moving on a bit. Who else saw the Rotodyne land at Fairey’s at Hayes? I did!
More smokers…
