Yes the tail unit was wooden, although the one in the picture was metal, not sure about tailplane.
It’s a bigger fin and rudder to counter the torque of a more powerful engine.

Did it fly?
No, But it could have
Did it even engine run?
No, It nearly did but we were told not to!!!
Where is it now?
In a museum, Yes but things could change
So it’s not airworthy, Yes that’s correct however she was put back together so that everything works, complete with paperwork, range of movement on flying controls etc everything is wire locked and split pinned. Engine and systems are inhibited, all it would take is a engine overhaul, new fuel tank and a annual servicing and a CAA permit, so it wouldn’t take much.

They were fitted that way for some reason long before I got there. PM is the last so no more hammering or funny insertion tools for us,and no I wasn’t at Fairford.
Ok, where to start…..
PS915 returned to base on Sunday afternoon, gear down, throttle back. In this mode the spit sounds ‘like a bag of nails’, they all do. So no problem there then!!
Stewart1a, a little knowledge is dangerous, no knowledge is frightening!
Comments like yours, no matter how well-intended, are misleading, and some of us have more to do with our time than correct the misinformation/rumour mill.
As for saying that Clive Rowley has had a lousy season so far, you forget that we did the D-day celebrations, a huge success, and have also attended many airshows and completed numerous flypasts already. There have been one or two problems which have already been highlighted and discussed on the forum and don’t need resurrecting.
As for the rudder and tailplane in Flypast, that’s the ongoing spares recovery project that, again, has already been debated, discussed and dismissed.

Probably PS915 she was displaying at Linton tonight
Rumours who needs them
Blimey been home four hours and the Lanc’s being grounded, we’ve changed our name. Not the right time to tell you all that Legends is cancelled and Duxfords closing on Monday then!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No singles just a nationwide tour by Lanc and the Merlins

Not me unfortunately, too much paperwork to catch up on.

The people that are responsible for Aircraft Records are good friends of mine and they were at BBMF a couple of weeks ago. Carrying out a sample recording when the flight returned from Blackpool.
They are returning next year to record material for a double CD covering all the flights aircraft.

PM631’s engine is being checked out by Retro and hopefully it should be back with us in 4 to 6 weeks, however because she was brought back by road we require new wing bolts to be manufactured. We are hoping if all goes well to have her in the air before the end of our display season.
LF363 will be back with us on Friday from Duxford she requires the engine to be shock load tested, new prop blades, new or repaired u/c doors, stbd wing tip and some new ribs for the stbd flap also NDT checks to both u/c attachment points and the stbd outer wing attachment brackets I don’t think she will fly again this year.

As soon as you get your finger out, I mean bolt!!!!!
PZ865 is flying again and should have been at Waddington today.
PM631 is back at Coningsby ( by road ) engine is out and at Retro.
LF363 is still at Duxford and will be brought back to Coningsby soon
Sorry not at the moment, unit enquiry still on going.
