Canopy and some airframe damage
Hopefully not too long
PM631 on airtest had partial canopy failure causing some airframe damage, all repairable. Pilot is ok. Failure is under investigation so I hope this stops all the rumours etc
Cheers 🙂

Thanks for your comments re: ‘disney figures.’
To make this clearer for you. Aprox 1 million per year, for BBMF, covers wages, winter servicing schedule at BBMF and spares. What isn’t included in this is any Major servicings, which are undertaken by outside agencies and are covered by other budgets.
The Lanc cost aprox £900,000 for its major service last winter and will not be serviced at this level for another 8 years, so average this out. A spit costs roughly £350, 000 every 8 years.
It should also be noted that these are today’s running costs, it would have been much less 15 years ago.
15 years and say 6.5 million spent on it ,
how much as been spent on the BBMF over the same period .Can anybody answer this one? you may very very surprised , and is it worth it.
It’s about £1 million a year but you get about 900 displays/flypasts seen by millions of people and about 20,000 visit BBMF at Coningsby each year. Is it worth it of course it is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Tom, as MH434 is based on a late MKV airframe the riveting pattern is different to that of a MK IX. All rivets fwd of fr11 above the fillet fairing line will csk, SP 71,s, below fillet fairing i think they will be snaphead SP 80,s. Aft of fr11 all rivets will be mush-head SP 85,s except for the horizontal intercostals between frames which will be either 3/32 or 1/8 csk SP 71,s. Fr19 is also flush riveted.
If you really want to do a MK IX then all the rivets are flush (csk SP 71,s) except for the ones below the fillet fairing line which are SP 80 snapheads.
Hope this helps you a bit tom.Steve
Sorry some of your info is wrong from frame 8 to 5 fwd the countersunk rivets are AS2229 90 degree not SP71 100degree rivets and the intercostals are AS2230 120 degree rivets and the skin is dimpled. However if you want to be authentic then you require mag rivets.
At last, the wings for TE311? 🙂
Mark
I wish 😀
If someone does know the why MJ627 is not at EK will they please step forward. Until then is there any chance of a little dacorum?
Surely that is between the owners of the a/c and the museum as to the reasons why!!!! The facts are the a/c is no longer at East Kirkby time this thread was locked!!!!
I have ringed what looks like large filler cap, (might be completly wrong), what is it?
Not a filler cap but the Co pilots harness retraint locking mechanism it is attached to the shoulder straps which you can see in the 11 o’clock position of the circle you have drawn. Snoopy is on the other side he is one of many teddies that fly on the Lanc.
A pair of wings for TE311 😀
Lancaster at war 2 from Mrs Fluffy signed by 15 aircrew, 4 DFMs & 3 DFCs from various sqns.
Mark in the picture you have in the previous post definitely shows the top eng cowl and tank panel in bare metal but have a look at this cropped shot and you will see why I have asked the question the top cowl and tank panel look a lot darker than bare metal even taking into account the exhaust staining which is not something you would see at the top of the tank panel.
The canopy frame is also darker and not bare metal. I have at work original top and side cowls which have been stripped of paint they all look the same the top is not darker than the sides
