I wish it were me, Eric, which it’s not! My next gliding experience is the meeting (8 and 9 June) for the 100 years of aviation at Challes-les Eaux in the French Alps, where I did quite a bit of gliding in the 1970s.

The fact that no-one seems to have noticed it suggests to me that it might be just a rumour.
Earlier in the thread we had a photo or two of the blue container outside El Alamein museum in which the P-40 was “rescued”. If that was shipped and taken to an aviation-related site in the UK (presumably not too far from the RAF Museum) surely someone would have spotted it.
With all the eagle-eyed people on this thread, anyone seen a blue container parked anywhere?

Curious that in the original newspaper report posted by Andy it says the crew was 6 to 8 people.

You are right Eric. In fact my VERY last gliding was in 2005 in a Pipistrelle Sinus with the engine off, and soaring gently along the French Jura. But I was not P1, so it doesn’t count. Lovely flight though!
