Another suposedly naval aircraft that’s not. Ex Iraqi Fury, F-AZXJ, dressed up as a Sea Fury. Taken last Saturday at Lausanne after it had slipped off the taxiway into the soft grass. No damage though. Flew again next day.

I just spent the weekend (27/28 August) odd-jobbing at the Lausanne meeting to celebrate 100 years of aviation there, and ex-N56SF (now F-AZXJ) was present. It flew in Saturday evening, together with Spitfire PRXIX PS890, from Dijon. Spectacluar low, fast pass with smoke. In fact it is an ex-Iraq Fury, not Sea Fury, although now painted as RAN WH589 “NW 115”.
The only mishap of the weekend was when it dropped its right-hand mainwheel into the soft grass off the taxiway. A couple of hours later it was fished out and no harm done.

eh, these what?
Here is one that is not going any further

A smaller aircraft in a snowy landscape

So why is the photograph on the “4 Venoms” page that of an Australian Vampire Trainer?
I have checked F-AZDK: it crashed in July 1989, that is after the Air-Britain photo linked by TJ. So it could still be it!
Re Lincoln 7’s comment above about 7 Sqd, we (Jim and I) were in 115 (Peterborough) Sqd ATC together in 1954. The one Lincoln pilot we both especially remember was Flt Lt JB Stephens, of 7 Sqd at Upwood, and I am pretty sure he told us of his experiences in the action against the Mau Mau. That must have been in 1953 I presume.
By the way, if anyone knows what happened to “Stevie”, both Jim and I would be very grateful!
I just had a reply on Aéroforums from J-L Bléneau that he thinks it is likely to be ex F-AZDK, as I suggested, above.
Good idea. Done!
It’s just you!
You are right, Propstrike. I looked on the site of Aéro-Rétro, and there it is mentioned that F-AZRO took part in The Empire of the Sun. I have written to Christian Martin to see if he has the identity of the aircraft.
One possibility might be 41-33449-EX476-SAAF7295-Belgium H-8 -F-BJBE -F-AZDK. With Christian Martin (Aéro-Rétro) at St Rambert (where it is based now), reported crashed in 1989 (the cn CM-01 = C Martin builder)
But maybe the “3443” on the tail refers to 41-33443 – EX470?? But I have nothing on that one.
It started life as a CAC Mustang 22 (A68-192), but was rebuilt with parts of P-51D 44-72917 and other ex-Philippine P-51s. So CAC or NA? Australian or US, you takes your choice.
