Now this is a fun topic!

Best Looking: 707, DC-9/MD-80/98/717 series, Saab 340B, Avro RJ, A340
    Worst Looking: 757, Yak-40, Tu-154
    Favorites: 1. 707,Avro RJ,DC-9 series,Saab 340B
    Just plain like: A300-600ST Beluga

I like some others too, but those are the main ones.

    RE: Avro Shutdown!

I am not sure that Embraer or Bombardier have better aircraft than the Avro RJ series. The RJ is very economical. Very comfortable, very quiet. What more can you ask for? Performance wise, it isn’t that bad, although not at the top of the charts. I would take an Avro RJ or 146 over Embraer or Bombardiers products. I wonder if the orders for those aircraft will be affected. They might do better now that the Avro RJ (the main competition) is out of the picture. The Avro RJ was outselling the other two aircraft by a fairly large margin. BAe had a winner, and look what they did….

    No!

Why did this happen? The Avro RJ was my favorite regional airliner and next to the 707 and DC-9 series, my favorite airliner overall. WHY?! I love this airplane. I have been looking on the progress of the RJX for some time. What happened? This makes me very sad.

    ?

How could a 737-700 possibly have a longer range than the DC-8 or 707? They are both single-aisle jets.

    Both

I would say both companies make superb aircraft Just look at the list.

    Boeing: 707, 717, 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, and BBJ
    Airbus: A300, A310, A320, A330, A340, and A319CJ

Every single one of those aircraft has been immensely successful. That in itself is a tribute to both companies.
P.S. On A320, I didn’t say A319/21 because they are just differenst sizes of the same plane just as the 737-300/400/500 are.

    Models

I have been building models since I was about 11 or 12 years old. (I will be 18 soon.) The most recent addition to my collection was an F-4EJ painted in special anniversary markings (forgot what the occasion was). It has the word Amigo on the side in big letters. I have no idea what that means. Obviously, I have more of the F-4 than any other aircraft type. I have two 1:32 scale Phantoms, one an F-4E and the other an RF-4C. Both are hanging from the ceiling. I have a 1:32 scale Tornado IDS (German Navy), 1:32 scale F-117A (still in box). I have mostly 1:72 and 1:48 scale models, but I have a few 1:144 scale models, which include an F-16A, F-16XL, Tu-22M-3, F-4E, MiG-23BN, and a MiG-21. In 1:48 scale, I have an F-4J, Tornado IDS, Tornado ADV, MiG-21, MiG-29’s, BF-110, BF-109, P-40’s, P-51, B-17, F-16’s, AH-64, F-4F, F/A-18’s, F-15, F-14’s, T-38, F-5’s, MiG-17, Mirage 2000, and several others. In the 1:72 scale department, I have F-14’s, F-16’s, F-100, F-4’s, Ar-240, MiG-23, MiG-25, MiG-27, Su-27, Jaguar, A-37, F-8, F-102, F-106, F-104, F-117A, Tornado, P-40, AH-1, UH-1, AH-64 (in box), KC-135, and several others. I also have a B-1, B-2, and a Space Shuttle but I forget what scale they are. They are fairly small so I think it is like 1:200 or something. I also have an F-15 that is close to 1:72 but a little smaller. I also have a 1:72 scale Hawker Typhoon that is still in the box therefore I haven’t put it together yet.

    RE: BAe 146/Avro RJ

I think the BAe 146-300 and RJ100 can be 6×6 if the 128 max is carried. (very rare)

    RE: Cessna Citation

Thanks for the help. I did check that source and Cessna just has cruising speeds posted. I did manage to locate the date of the first flight, now I am just looking for the top speed. I do agree with you though, the Citation family really does have something for everyone. Cessna has done it again.

    RE: Best airline

I haven’t flown on too many, but I like Northwest the best. I guess I could say KLM too since they are partners. I liked American as well, but NWA is my favorite.

    RE: CDG-What is it like?

I was just there a few days ago. We came home from a trip to France and England, and we left CDG on a KLM 737, then flew to Amsterdam to get on a Northwest DC-10 to head to the states. Anyway, the airport is just really, really big, of course that is nothing new. The problem I had with it was that it was very easy to get lost. Shopping and restaurants, if you can find them, is very good. There is lots of things to see and lots of places to eat. As far as the types of planes you will see, just about all of them are there. Everything from Avro RJ’s and Fokker 100’s and up. Lots of 737’s and Airbus A340’s. I saw the tail of a Russian Aeroflot plane but I am not sure what it was. I would imagine an IL-86 or IL-96, but it is hard to tell. I went to eat and when I came back, it had left. Several days earlier, when our group had taken the high-speed train from London to Paris, we had passed by the airport and I saw a Concorde parked next to a hangar. Pretty unmistakeable.

What have you got against KLM? I happen to like them and Northwest very, very much.

    RE: Ugliest Aircraft?

Hi, this is my first post on this forum. I usually post of the AFM forum, but I have recently taken an renewed interest in airliners of all types. I think that some of the most beautiful are the following:

    1. Boeing 707 (the most graceful lines I have ever seen on a plane)
    2. Saab 340 (the fly into the local airport where I live, absolutly gorgeous)
    3. DC-9 (this includes all series, but I think the older ones look better, as the new ones have very fat looking engines)
    4. DC-3 (I have never gotten to see one, but I have always liked them, and believe it or not they are still in widespread service)

As for aircraft I don’t find attractive, I would say the 727 is not quite there for my liking. I also think the earlier 737’s are odd-looking due to the very thin engines. I don’t hate either aircraft though, as I have flown on the 727, and it was a very nice ride. The newer 737’s look nice to me. The Russian Tu-134 with glazed nose is odd, but I wouldn’t say ugly. As for the Il-62, I don’t think it looks that bad.
