nope….compass swinging with a compass rose in the words of a famous song…’same as it ever was!’
Ah, ok. Thanks; I’d been told this type (with the vertical grip) was somehow used for that purpose, but couldn’t picture it. That’ll be why!
Hmm. Was this type or something similar also used for ground calibration of aircraft compasses? Or does that bit of kit look rather different?
Under-rated?

Isn’t this the one with the non-elliptical (squashed) planform wings? If so, “blech” is all I can say. Looks like a (bad) artist’s rendition of the design. If not, then move along, nothing to see here!
I met Dave Morris at the recent Friends of Duxford visit to the FAAM. Generally speaking I’m one for putting aeroplanes in the air, but accepting that they have their place in museums too I think his quest to conserve originality is highly commendable and I wish him well in his efforts…….
Agreed, full credit to the FAAM for a unique restoration aimed at simultaneously gaining the maximum amount of historical information possible, whilst preserving the aeroplane’s authenticity. It may offer more of a preventative conservation challenge, but that shouldn’t be shied away from if the resources are there to meet it. If you get a chance to see Dave’s presentation on the work, it’s well worth seeing/hearing.
He’s a big softy, unless you look like lunch or try to feed him raw meat. Any other food he’l just nibble from your fingers, raw meat brings out the wild side so it’s best to throw it to him if you want to keep all your fingers.. or both hands.. His sister is the same way.
If ya hold a biscuit in your hand they will run past flat out & take it barely touching your skin….
They howl at fire trucks etc …. & have taught every dog in the neighbourhood to howl.. including the 3 dobermans just up the street, the owner isn’t too happy about it for some reason…
So which is he? Pure wolf I’m not overly concerned about, having sat with one and rubbed its tummy (aw); its the hybrids that are supposed to be the aggressive dangerous ones. In fact they’re illegal in quite a lot of places as I understand it. Whatever the case, he’s beautiful!

Dieffenbaker:
Yikes man, that looks like either a full-blood wolf or a dog-wolf hybrid. 😮

It’s an Americanism, is it not? Not sure I see the relevance of its usage to this thread though. The Duxford marketing term is “Historic Aircraft” as far as I know.
I assume that due to a lack of response from anyone in the know at Duxford,
The good old Vasity will probably be left alone to degenerate to the point of being beyond economic repair.
Still, its not a WARBIRD is it. Warbird, what a pathetic description of an historic aeroplane. I suppose in this day and age we have to dum things down.
Warbird – shove it up your arse.Good luck “Vickers Varsity” You’re going to need it.
Can you feel the love? Quick, someone get Avro a paper bag to breathe in and out of.
Goody. Another immortal Bedism which I shall deploy the very next time I have the chance.
I think it’s actually a Twelveism. Amusing nonetheless!
There used to be a Meteor centre section there last year.
To save others the bother, the posted link doesn’t include a piicture of the mystery object
Moggy
‘course, that’s cos it’s not a posted link, it’s his sig pointing to his online photo album.
So if they must stay why can’t they be displayed over the north side? Plenty of room & there is a fair sized hanger at the back. So those that are interested only have to cross the road.
Agreed as goes Don’s demise but there was never a cause found in OH-B’s & the most likely was the canopy leaving the aircraft & knocking him out.
There is zero space to store, let alone display the entire contents of LWH plus the maritime collection, on the North Side. Nor is there the capacity, manpower etc to open North Side as open storage, let alone as a properly interpreted part of the museum. Besides, I happen to think the LWH is one of the best features of Duxford, with some quite wonderful contextual interpretation and atmosphere. People often say the aviation world doesn’t revolve around Duxford, well, the military historical world doesn’t revolve around aviation either.
