Or perhaps some fearful curtain-twitching media victim saw a kid with a water-pistol/banana/rolled-up Greenpeace newsletter and called the coppers.

What was that special chopper stolen from the ship in a recent Brosnan one? Was it a Eurocopter of some sort?

Yep, Eurocopter Tiger (or Tigre). Then cool prototype ‘stealth’ helicopter of the moment.

The links change as it’s an automated system connected to a database rather than a permanent set of webpages.

Intriguingly enough, only a matter of days before this was reported, there was a snippet in the local Colchester rag about some archery equipment being stolen from a shed in the area…

Just out of interest, now that most of the IWM aircraft are going into airspace, what will the other hangars be like? Hopefully they won’t be as crowded, but are there plans to bring stuff in to fill up the space? Theres bound to be quite a lot of empty space. Also, what are the plans for other aircraft such as the Victor and Shackleton? There in very bad condition, can’t believe they’ve been allowed to decay so badly, its the only Victor in non-gulf war camo as well

Victor and Shackleton are to go into the blank space at the front of the building for conservation assessment and consolidation. There are no details of the subsequent reshuffle, but all efforts will be made to get as many exhibits under cover as possible.

    Harry Tate hung up.
As usual The Great War stuff is hung up or otherwise ignored.

If my memory serves me correctly, the IWM was originally formed to commemorate the first great unpleasantness. If that’s the case why does the management at Duxford behave as if it never happened?

I imagine that the perception is that the ‘modern paying punter’ neither knows or cares about the events of 1914-18.
Of course we could have a stab at educating them but that would rash and foolish in the extreme–don’t you think?

Also while I’m bashing Duxford, don’t you think the Great War CMB display could do with a bit of revamping? The CMB–Coastal Motor Boat hasn’t been touched in years.
More kindling in the eyes of the management I expect–again like that rather unloved product of The Factory, unique.
    Later
    A.

OK, I’ll bite. But only a nibble. Do you think if Duxford (as though it’s some hive-mind entity out to steal your tax-pounds) was that disinterested in the First World War, it would go to the lengths it has to acquire a rare example of a late War British bomber? Finally, I’d suggest you wait until 2007 and judge AirSpace when it’s complete as to whether Duxford can successfully interpret this period.

I’m more intrigued to discover how grants from the HLF could possibly end up anywhere else other than in commercial companies’ pockets – isn’t that the idea behind the grant – providing the wherewithall to pay for work which cannot be carried out for nothing?

Yup. Requiring bidders to find non-commercial non-profit-making specialists to build for you is more ‘Home Front’ or ‘Changing Rooms’ territory than Heritage Lottery Fund!
