I saw on the m1 near toddington services north yesterday at about 12clock 2 tiger moths in formation with a powered glider any one know what they were doing???
Mine wasnt from Duxford either. This was the last woodford airshow and i perisited down ALL day (not a unusual situation) hardly anything flew so the guy on the tannoy shouted ” Due to the bad weahter we are experiencing the flying display will now be cancelled and the local scouts will be doing sychronised swimming on the runway in 5 minutes” it seemed to sum up the day howver it didnt stop a flyby by an f117 that year!
I would llike to come along if i can
i just hope you are right as they ahv already scrapped the prototype jetstream 41
at the moment there are about 5 on the round in various states of disrepair including some of the sata ans merpati ones at woodford now all probably oging to be scrapped and that is including the prototype.
This is how whe looks nowadays a bit on the dirty side but knowing the museum she will be back in tip top conditions soon (sorry about the car!)
i think it came from st athan zd142 perhaps
moggy is it a vc10 k2 wing? going to somewhere in east anglia
dear kabir
thanks for the wapiti picture much appreciated. if i remeber rightly it was developed from the dh9a and was the 2nd aircraft 55squadron obtained. ( i used to be in 55sqn aircadets)
Kabir, thanks for the photos nice to know that the iaf museum is still going strong. do you by any chance have a picture of the westland wapiti that is on display there as i think it is the only one left in existence. many thanks:D
That is a fond memories for me as i had a look round it in 1984, unfortunately all that is left are the engines that are now stored at the aviation museum at ta kali. It was a good time if you liked dakotas too as there was about 12 there, something to do with the oil fields in libya i was told there were a few carabous being maintained too.
A bit of history for you. the buccaneer was the first one of the buccs to have the laser guidance mod done at woodford in the 80s and xm575 is the last surviving vulcan from the last public qra demmo at raf finningley in september 1981>:)
I used to use lys as an alternative as often i couldnt get a flight to gnb and you are right it is better covered for access to grenoble itself. I just wanted a picture of the airport as a memeory of what i used to do. easy jet fly there from stanstead so i will use that in the sumer when i go back. thanks for that.

No the vulcan was donated to woodford for display purposes why they painted it in the white colour i dont know?. However, it was subsequently used in plumbing trials for the k2 mod in late 1982. Hope this helps.

The current situation is that she now has all 4 engines working but unfortunately a few months ago her main wheel stearing snapped and she cant move but her systems are regularly run up every tuesday. Now for one of the rumours, is that she will be broke up and ferried to machester airport for the new viewing park that will be opened soon( that was from a guy that is involved in this) so maybe she will have a future abeit not in the air. Put it this way she is far in a way better off than the blackpool vulcan!!!!
