I have been there about 9 each day and been on the second row of the car park each time, entry is £7.
Have been at popham for the last two days for the microlights. Very few traders to be honest, less than 20. I know that tomorrow is a different event but I think the jumble part has really shrunk? Although aircraft bits are not my thing and there could be some real bargains, who knows?
Interesting, pennies for new acquisitions?
Whats the deal with the Wildcat? Has it gone to Duxford for work or is it a permanent move? Considering the reason stated for its purchase ( better bad weather ops IIRC)a permanent move would be strange?
Hi yes its open every weekend and bank holidays ,website is http://www.airsciences.org.uk/visitor-information.html

A lunch stop at Middle Wallop saw both AACHF Sioux and Scout active around lunchtime, lovely to see them back.
The chances of stepping straight into a historic aviation job are very small because there are so few of them. Most of the people on the engineering side seem to be towards the end of their careers. Best to look at the airlines like Monarch, Easyjet and Thomson at Luton and of course BA. I think you have to see historic aviation as maybe a weekend activity while gaining experience in the aviation world for a few years.
Does anybody know what aircraft the RAF earmarked ‘for museum purposes at the end of WW2 as they did with K9942? Given that no Typhoon made through the normal route there can’t have been any joined up thinking on this issue? I would love to know how the aircraft for the Science Museum, IWM Birmingham and Glasgow museums were allocated? Surprising that no other municipal museums received aircraft? I wonder why the IWM preserved a FW190 and not a Hurricane or Typhoon in the late 40’s?
The key word on the caa site is de-registered. One the aircraft has been declared as withdrawn from use the CAA have no interest in the aircraft unless somebody wishes to fly it again and then is will be restored to the register. Im sure there are plenty of aircraft in museums that are still down as the previous owner on the register.
The condition of the Hawk Major is a disgrace, the RAFM should be ashamed at the state of it. Really needs some TLC from somebody who actually cares about this rare aircraft.
Would live to see the Hawk Major restored to flight at Old Warden, failing that it should be a t the Berkshire Museum at woodley. How did the RAFM acquire a Rotec Rally microlight? I assume the Demsoille is a replica?
Good stuff, looks like they have a ‘naughty’ hill there rather than the ‘naughty’ field at Duxford!
They will still also be at Culdrose for some time to come. sadly the days of retired aircraft going straight to museums have gone but assume 154 will go to RAFM. Would have been nice to had a proper retirement year and some special schemes like a red and white example.
I am assuming ‘civil defense’ was similar to the ARP of ww2? If so why did the have air frames, just curious?
The Hotspur and Horsa cockpits have been a bit of a mystery since they left Aldershot? I saw them in the late 90’s and from what I remember were in good condition. MW would be their natural home.
