Don’t forget about the 13ieme Regiment des Dragons Royales. SF unit specializing in behind enemy lines operations such as recon, demolition and other operations in such environments.

I also forgot the 1st RPIMA, which is the successor of the french SAS from WWII.

True the swiss F18 are nothing to sneer at. Makes you wonder if they would have bought more F18s had some been available.

During the Libyan conflict, they were shown to be capable of cruising without afterburner for an extended period of time at M=0.9 with large bomb loads and external tanks, and there is no reason to believe that this was even the full capacity of the engines.

That was “at half throttle” 😀

    Do you live in Italy?

Do you know what’s happening there in addition to what Anglo-Saxon mass media report?

No, you do not. That’s why you say Italy is broke.

Well, with an “ex” goldman sachs in charge, if it ain’t broke yet it’s soon going to be.

    So long italian gold. 😡

As kovy said what is important is to master the key technologies. It will always be more economical to purchase off the shelf components when they already exist and you know that you could replace them easily with domestic components if there ever is a need.

FFS stop it with the “emergency landings in Malta”. Nobody here knows what made the plane land in Malta. For all you know it may have been caused by lack of fuel due to staying to much on station and the unavailability of a tanker on the way back. It could have been anything.

I’ll pretend I didn’t read your xenophobic comments, just added for other posters that I’ve just seen there was a programme of mid life update for the scalp/storm shadow of 200 million € starting from 2015 for delivery starting 2018.

Anyone know what they consist of?

Any reason why India would integrate Taurus and not Storm Shadow or Scalp EG?

Given this attitude, I have very low hopes of any future Rafale export sales.

Our politicians give away everything that France have. From know how to independance & sovereignty to technologies to the gold of the central bank.

I won’t be sorry if there is at leat one thing they don’t manage to give away, that’s for sure.

Low cost strike would be useless if we didn’t stick our nose in other countries’ business.

I for one don’t think that the Rafale needs a bigger array.

I for one don’t think that the Rafale needs a 90kn engine until the AESA conformal arrays are integrated during MLU.
