Other news: the programmed excercize between HAF and Rafale F3 of Charles DeGaulle was cancelled at the last minute. According to Defencenet, the last time, the greek B52+ supported with Erieye arrived to a 6 to 1 kill ratio against the Rafale F3 and opened the way for the “sinking” of the Charles De Gaulle by Mirage2000 armed with Exocets.

The CdG had to sail back to port after finding some electrical fault somewhere.

I’ve been watching the show a couple years ago, the presenter was much more provocative and didn’t give up until he was answered the question. After he went on France 2 it changed quite a bit. I guess he was told to put some water into his wine or else no more France 2.

When it comes to the other presenter who does a show once in a while, you can’t find a worse journalist. He cuts anyone who’s going to say something interesting on purpose.

Not entirely sold on UCAVs as a primary strike platform. To me they’re more like a reusable Tomahawk.

So the UK are going to build two carriers and sell one?

1/ Build the second one as PA2 in exchange for a purchase of Rafales instead of the F35C.

2/ Cooperate with Dassault and merge Neron with Taranis for a carrier capable stealth UCAV.

3/ Develop the Eurofighter some more and form a RAF fleet of Eurofighters and Neuranis.

4/ If money permits build a third carrier for the UK (2nd for the RN), to benefit from the economies of scale of buying three ships instead of two. Also market it to India with some transfer of thechnology but 1 built in the UK.

I personally think they are foolish to scrap the airframes. They should store them and spend a smaller amount to use them for their first aircraft carrier or any significant event that would rear its head in the foreseeable future.

What would you do with such planes without proficient pilots?

Anyway we are not at a technological level to allow 360° AESA coverage yet. The technology has to improve quite a bit because of the issues you raised, that’s why it prpbably won’t happen before the MLU of the 4+ gen fighters.
