You’re sure that rate of fire is really needed? Why not just fire a longer burst instead. If you use only one GAU-8 you need a much smaller and cheaper plane. Maybe something like an atlantic with one GAU-8 with 2000-3000 rounds instead of the bay for instance.

You could afford a lot more of those, and the cost per flight hour would be a lot less.

As for the recoil, the gun could be mounted near the center of gravity. Maybe as you suggest retro-rockets could help if the recoil has to be countered.

You could set up the geometry of your 8 GAU8 array (say target an area in a square or circular shape or more rectangular and stretched in the case of a convoy for instance according to the concentration configuration) & in a second you’d obliterate a couple soccer field’s worth at once. No time to scatter or run away from the attack as it’s done in a couple second bursts at max. 2 seconds = 1120 30mm shells

If anything it’s way more efficient for the VVS to wear down older aircrafts with plenty of airframe hours left and that are definitely good enough for the job before they are retired anyway, instead of wasting airframe hours on newer jets that are few & far between, while still using the Su 34 enough to get valuable operational & combat experience. Bonus points could be awarded for the inter-operability with the SyAAF which also operates the Su 24.

Anyway KGB, none of those conspiracy theories make any sense when you think logically about the situation. ISIS does not respect/recognize borders. On the face of it, why would the US (or anyone) be fighting ISIS in one nation and be allowing safe passage into another. ISIS forces pour back and forth based on the pressure they are facing. Russia/Syria were focused on Aleppo. The Iraqi/western forces are engaged with ISIS in northern Iraq and Kurdish forces are pushing them west.

The ISIS forces remaining are concentrating where there is the least pressure on them, that is all.

Except his source say that there is a difference in landing gear and arresting hook, landing aid & fuselage longitudinal strengthening. Ergo you don’t just glue the tail-hook on the skin, obviously.
