The only hint so far is the band substraction algorithm, and it’s too bad it took several pages of argument to come up with that.

This is what Thales was saying at the time of their research on Catherine XP and one can also substract whatever part of one or the other image in order to get rid of the backgrounds.

Simple but i understand that you don’t, if IR limits are the atmospheric conditions then eliminating the atmospheric background is like cleaning your spectacles, you SEE better.

So in a way you use mid wavelenght to clean the picture for the longer wavelenght to gain higher range or vice versa?

It only has to do with the fact that I would like to understand how it would work to increase range of mid wavelenght sensors to use it in combination with long ranged captors.

None of your links prove it directly, and only the later explainations hint to a clue as to why it could be useful to get that extra range.

If you were able to quit your condescending and prejudiced tone you would get your message through in a much more efficient way.

This doesn’t contradict what I said. 8-12 µm band can detect at longer distances, but will degrades when weather is bad; mid-wave are more resistent to humidity, fog, smoke, but will detect at shorter range. So, adding a 3.5 µm band sensor to the long-wave IRST, will not allow it to “see” farther; in fact it will offer shorter range, but it can work on bad weaher. Comprende?

As for MIRAS you posted, it is old news. DAS is not a primitive MWS as the french thing. It’s much more.

I think you guys argue over a misunderstanding (probably due to language difference).
The way I read it, you are saying that dual band doesn’t increase the overall detection range of the system, since it’s the shorter wavelengths that is added for adverse conditions that has a shorter range.
But lordassap is saying that the usefull range IS increased, since in high humidity you would have the shorter wavelength to detect your targets, while the longer ranged wavelength would detect zilch.

Usefull range in adverse condition is thereby increased, while overall max range in good conditions isn’t. You guys are both right in a way, but you don’t manage (want) to agree with eachother.

A SLBM launch at, for example, Iran, could trigger a retaliatory strike from, say, Russia if they detected the missile and thought it was launched towards them.

Use of Rafale + ASMP-A means they can, as toan pointed out, launch a retaliatory strike without escalating to a full nuclear war.
