Yeah that’s what they always say. ECM protected aircraft still keep getting shot down though.

What would be nice is a datalink that goes between missiles.
For instance you fire the Mica IR and Mica EM, and the Mica EM feeds the radar data to the IR as long as the IR hasn’t found the target on its seeker, and once it has it it can feed the data to the EM in case the plane manages to jam the Mica EM seeker.
Sensor fusion between missile in other words. And probably much easier than to fit several sensors on a single missile. You have to fire two missiles at the same target, but I suspect they already do that more often than not to be sure of a kill don’t they ?
Other advantage is the missles won’t have the same trajectory, so it will be harder to defend against both at the same time. And if launch is simulateous, the Mica IR might go undetected for a while, making it even more dangerous!

Viper May not exactly be cheap, It would still be cheaper compared to the Rafale. Dassault will probably charge us the R&D cost for their new radar and stuff.
The radar has already been funded for the AdlA a while ago, and has entered production phase already :confused:

If you DON’T detect the F-35’s radar, then he’ll spot you at 100+nm in a non-VLO aircraft, whereas the adversary won’t detect the F-35 till it’s in the 20-30nm(if that). That means that the adversary will always be within the NEZ of the F-35’s weapons before it detects the F-35. If by luck, the foe sees the F-35 on it’s IRST before its radar can detect it, it’ll still be within the NEZ(and the F-35 will still know about its presence). Even with a Meteor/R-27ER/R-77M1/etc… all that extra range isn’t going to help much if there is no radar lock.
That’s true on a 1vs1 basis, but not quite likely in an operational scenario. For instance, when the F35 is detected by UHF radars, then they can send a team of fighters with mids to intercept it. One flying below the F35 could scan the target area to pick the F35 from background cold with its IRST and feed the target data to another plane flying way above for maximum effective range.
As for the supercruise on the EF/Rafale/Gripen- what is their supercruise range? The F-22 can’t supercruise for its entire mission, and neither can they, which means that if the F-35 can only cruise at M.95, there won’t be a .4 mach advantage at all times. It also means that if it can supercruise, then it comes down to who can do it the furthest, for there to be any tangible advantage.
Say a typhoon cruises at M1.3 with AA load or a Rafale at M1.2. If it wants any chance to catch them, the F35 will need to light it’s pc, making it much much more detectable via IRST, and burning much more fuel in the process.

I don’t think it is much at all. A smaller number of AC would make for a pretty weak dissuasion cabability. Besides they retain their secondary role of SCALP delivery, so they could be considered “strategic strike” squadrons, nuclear or not.
Besides the planes are fully multirole, so they could, in need, undertake all the missions dedicated to other rafales if need be.

Really, the US has far fewer string than many believe. Remember, Europe (including France) have very similar policies and restriction. Also, the Rafale is not nearly as mature and will very likely cost more than the American Competitiors. With that just being the tip of the iceberg……….IMO
So, the Rafale would likely have better odds than the Russians at this point. Yet, less than the US……..
A quick google search brought a fly away price of $ 58 million for the SH compared to around $ 50 million for the Rafale. Besides India has no planes that use weapons which would be equipping the SH. A purchase of french weapons could be capitalised on the Mirage 2000 fleet too. IE if you buy Micas you can equip your M2k fleet with them. Same thing with AASM and SCALP EG. There I hope that the french gvt would offer those toys as cheap as possible, as it would dramatically lower unit cost for the AdlA if they manage to equip 126 MRCA + around 50 M2k!
Anyway I still see the SH winning the contest, but mainly due to political factor and the will of the indians to cooperate more with the US.
