Speaking of which why aren’t they using this kind of rocket pod with 18 laser guided rockets + 50 Gal of fuel.

Scratch the Lightning for air defense, use it for ground attack!

8 rocket pods + 2 AA Missiles.

(note that the overwing pods are the JL-100 from Matra that carry 50 Gal of fuel each).

Well the theme of the Whatif was described in the 1st post. EE Lightning for AtoA intead of Mirage III, and buccaneers instead of SuE. I suppose the same number of airframes.

I think the 30 Daggers, being Israeli, could remain. So that’s 17 EE Lightning, which would probably be used to defend mainland for eventual Mirage IV bombings (like they did to defend from the Vulcans), & 4 buccanneers for the Argentinian navy.

Actually they had 2 KC-130s. And if you use 20+ packages in air to air it means means dropping 60+ fuel tank on anti-cruze missions. How many of them are they going to carry?

The range of the F5E isn’t better than the range of the Mirage III/Dagger, so why you expect a different result is beyond me.

As long as they don’t park their aircrafts on the Falklands they’re toast, just like in real 1982

Air to ground attacks have hence been carried out by Rafales and Mirage 2000D against Libyan air defenses, be it combat aircrats, air bases, radar sites, command centers or fixed and mobile SAM systems.

Much more official than that rand piece.

I guess they don’t count as SEAD missions because France doesn’t do SEAD. They just treat them as ground attack missions.

Total program cost of AASM = 244889€ / unit as of LPM 2013. Probably lower with export sales of the Rafale, and maybe further orders of AdlA after use.

Here’s the total MRO cost for the AdlA Rafale fleet

182.60 M€ for a fleet of up to 77 aircrafts. If we get to know the exact average number of hours per airframe for this period you’ll get a pretty solid MRO cost.
