we already discussed this couple of page ago, using RWR for BVR air to air engagement will be highly inaccurate. RWR passive ranging ability can be quite easy negated by enemy’s tactics ( both in 1 vs 1 and multi ship engagement )
The point of Rafale is sensor fusion, nobody ever argued that the ESM would replace radar. Even if SPECTRA alone can’t give you a decent fix (which I doubt, but let’s imagine for a second), your other sensors will know where to look and you will need minimal radar emissions to track the target & get a fix, or you can slave your IR channel to it, or you can ask for another asset to look overthere & give you a better fix.
Which of the following two options do you like better?
1. fly silently using AWACS/ground/see assets to do the radiating and use your ESM to detect enemy emissions (yes including DAS, since if you want to fly silently in your beloved EF you have to turn DAS off :highly_amused:), & then slave your radar a couple seconds to get a fix & a shot off if other assets can’t provide it.
2. patrol the skies with your radar on scanning everywhere, letting anyone with a decent ESM system know your whereabouts but detecting what gets in your radar’s FOV.
Air combat has nothing to do with 2 fighters flying towards eachother in full afterburner & with radar @ full power. The more discrete you are the easier you can surprise your opponent, & in air combat surprise is 90% of a kill.

Alright after deliberating with myself I have come to the conclusion that we should get rid of the lukos bickering & Rafale-envy. I have decided to use the nastiest means and I am determined to program a bug in his matrix:
So, lukos, which is better the EF or the F35?

there was a time when it was intended to build a special batch of 1-way Meteor for Rafale, but those days are long gone, Rafale will be upgraded to handle 2-way DL like anyone else,
and only 2-way DL Meteor will be built
Obviously; but it seems that the way Dassault & the AdlA handle the development of the Rafale (ie bring upgrades when they are needed and not before they are needed) will leave the Typhoon fanboys a few months to enjoy this wet dream.

No
F-35 can carry weapons like SDB II, Spear, Brimstone ( light, can carry in high number, have long range, have multi seeker) while Rafale cant
Matter of integrating those weapons on the Rafale if a customer wishes.
If you come up with your peewee weapons and become too much of a nuisance, the Rafale can nuke you.
F-35 can do jamming and high speed data link by APG-81 while Rafale cant
Why would you do jamming (& risk reveal your position while actually transmitting) when you are “invisible” from the front hemisphere in the first place? Would be more useful to jam the sectors where you are not as stealthy.
Said various folk in the 1930’s… not least large elements of the French right wing population…
I wasn’t talking about budgets. Indeed most of the defense budget is to serve as a US puppet in “wars” that are both useless & detrimental to our image in the world. If half the money we spend on OPEX was used to maintain a credible defense the point would be moot, whatever your twisted analysis of present day Russia.
If we have to defend against something in the future it will be against the consequences of our blind allegiance to NATO, not against Russia or Poutine. NATO builds enough enemies for itself, you don’t even need real ones.

This will all change when somebody like putain is allowed to keep pushing the boundaries until they cease being able to understand where the boundaries are and something kicks off, then the people will be demanding to know why more wasn’t spent on defence before it was too late…
Sheer assclownery.

The reality of real world ranges make the datalink less useful.
LOL so when RBE2 lacks dual mode datalink EF> Rafale, but when Asraam has no datalink vs Mica IR, datalink is “less useful”.

This may come as a shock to you but in democracies the people quite regularly decide they don’t like a government they previously elected. Usually they remove such governments from power by not electing them again but occasionally, if the government has been particularly corrupt, inept and generally unfit they have been known to drive government out of power through protests. This is pretty normal in most countries with a functioning democracy that are not ruled by a dictator with delusions of Czardom, even if it is rare that such extreme levels of protest are required to get a government to step down as was required in the Ukraine where the democratically elected government sent snipers to pick of protesters. Just look at what has been happening in Greece. They’ve had four governments since 2009, massive levels of protests and none of those governments sent snipers to shoot at the protesters. As regards Mexico, firstly what is happening in Mexico is not a minor crime wave it is a full blown insurgency perpetrated by criminal gangs. Secondly, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo? Really? Russia participated in three separate partitions of Poland, four if you count WWII. Compared to that the USA is a rank amateur at annexation next to old annexation veterans like Russia and given their history the Poles have every right to be paranoid about Russian sabre rattling. Do you really want to go into this discussion or shall we limit it to the 20th century or better yet get it back on topic.
LOL
situation awareness is always good to have…

AH-64.
Americans are most likely to provide direct support if the Russians try to make Poland into the next Crimea.
Holy lack of understanding of geopolitics batman.
I wonder how many GaN modules are used in SPECTRA’s antennae? And would the be enough to send a pulse at some useful distance to range a target like a radar would? Would that require changes in the antenna?

Nothing to do with IIR sensors.
Over the shoulder shot with the Mica missile was already demonstrated in another test back in 2007.

The Fullback has made the Tu-22M platform completly absolete.

In Europe yes. it just gets re run and re run until the desired result is achieved. Suspect this thread will be several pages of Gripen Gripen Gripen Gripen Gripen Gripen Gripen Gripen Gripen Gripen punctuated with an occasional genuflection.
