You don’t even need to remote control them, you might as well use them for V1 type pre-programmed mission.

Either they divert precious air defense ressources, & get shot down by expensive missiles, or they get used as a cruise missile and strike some target. Win win.

It seems so. I would guess that the investment required to build 108 odd Rafales would be too costly to be cost efficient.

Apparently it cost too much to produce locally.

I don’t trust the “postpone” thingie. If we can’t afford them now we won’t be able to afford them at any point in the foreseeable future.

Yes I doubt they would buy only 36. So lets wait and see.

Come on he was just replying to some stupid point that EF Tranche 1 would be a better deal for india than the Rafale F3+whatever.

Nevermind that India would need to ask the US permission to order some AMRAAMs, which I doubt they’d get.

Even if the full MMRCA package goes forward, India’s negotiating position has been weakened and they will not get the same kind of deal they could’ve previously (see the cost of Mirage 2000 upgrade for what happens when Dassault has maximum leverage and India has none).

And of course, Dassault knew this all along — that they could simply wait out negotiations while pressure intensified on the Indian side to conclude a deal.

Not necessarily. For all we know this off the shelf purchase could be a deal between Dassault and India to make Dassault soften it’s position on some MMRCA parameters.

Also the 63 birds order means that suddenly a steady flow of new AC will be delivered to the IAF, and suddenly the IAF is in less of a hurry to introduce a new plane. So they can drag their feet on MMRCA.

Dassault products are not cheap, but India has been trading with Dassault for many decades, dating back as recently as the Mirage 2000 upgrade. I don’t think Dassault would be making use of the signing as a way to blackmail India. It would be utterly foolish.

If everything goes well India will probably be the single bigger Rafale customer, even before France. India alone would make the Rafale a huge success.

Here a Hellenic Mirage 2000-5EG Mk2 and French Rafale C armed on QRA duty – 2x ARH MICA, 2x IR guided MICA, one drop tank (to be jettisoned).
I have serious doubts the max speed or acceleration after climb is imparted by this loadout in any significant way.

I think that this Rafale is actually carrying 6 AAMs, two Mica EM on the fuselage stations, two Mica IR on the wing tips & the two you can see on the pic on the wing pylons.
