Did anyone watch the 1994 World Cup? ..these Americans had YEARS to plan, AND a subsidized Budget , to build SOCCER Stadiums and roads and fix up transport so fans could get to the venues and arrange security, they couldn;t even do that…. the USA looked like a complete bunch of idiots to the whole world…..

Read some of the stories about the World Cup in Atlanta, e.g. the foreigners who couldn’t change money because of the failure to allow for more than one method, by one provider; the appalling transport male chicken*-ups (warned about in advance, but ignored) that left teams, press, & fans in huge traffic jams, & meant many people were late for matches; the incompetent security that, for example (just one: there were others), left people with valid passes shut out because they were on foot (because of the transport foul-ups) & the security guards had been told to admit them only in ‘authorised vehicles’, & were too stupid to understand that this meant “don’t admit vehicles unless they’re authorised”, not “require everybody to be in a vehicle”*. And so on, & and so on . . . .

You’d never imagine that a country where such incredible incompetence is rife could get anything done, would you?

*The press cottoned on to this very fast, & any of them who arrived on foot, or bike, or whatever & couldn’t get in simply flagged down the next press car & squeezed in. This was done in front of the security guards who refused entry to them on foot, & who watched it, then let the car in, including the person who’d just been stopped. Doh!

*Someone fix this sanguinous censorship software. It’s ridiculous! What next? Censoring Scunthorpe?

I think it’s better to have more dedicated (cheaper) planes rather than having a smaller fleet of multirole (and pricer aircrafts). Especially when your foe gets fewer and fewer more expensive airplanes. Problem is they can’t be everywhere at once.

Nothing has been specifically mentioned. The sensible assumption is that it will be ball-park Typhoon or Rafale RCS but with a smaller radar. With an equal pilot it might be competitive against a Typhoon or Rafale but for BVR combat its manoeuvrability is unlikely to match a Typhoon realistically. Against a 5th gen aircraft, not a chance in hell.

Who said the gripen needed to dogfight the Typhoon or the F35?

for places where battles take place like we have had for some time in syria or irak, you know where the battle unfolds, and you’d send a big heavy aircraft full of small bombs to loiter above the battlefield. when troops on the ground see a target, they’d point it out and the bomber drops required ordnance that’s guided by the guys on the ground. The time of reaction would be the time needed for the ordnance to fall to the ground (and you could eventualy even help it by adding a booster, to reduce the delay)

How would the guys in the aircraft know which side to bomb? Do the ROE change every time the plane crosses the border or something?

Gripens are way good enough to attack the falklands & pave the way for an airborne assault, even against Typhoons or F35s. The main problem the argies would have to solve would be the Astutes.

What about having Embraer integrate EL/L-8247/8 & EL/M-2052 as a temporary measure until the Gripen E/F MLU done with local developments 10 to 15 years down the road?

Alternately, I’m sure Thales could provide a radar to replace whatever they intend to put in the Gripen E/F, same with the EW system.
