Who needs SEAD when you got F35? :eagerness:

Indeed it wouldn’t be worthwhile to refurbish 12 odd Mirage 2000s, but it would have been worthwhile if Brazil & Argentina bought the UAE Mirages and transfer ToT to Embraer so they could upgrade them to 2000-9 standard. Or they could be used as spares for the 2000-9 fleet, which would avoid canibalizing perfectly good 2000-9s.
Now I wonder if some othe country could find a use for those 12 Mirages. Maybe India would like them for spares? India could even add them to their list of Mirages to upgrade, because I think the Indian upgrade includes complete overhaul & life extension.
Even if they paid the price Brazil got them it would still be a bargain and a fraction of the cost of the upgrade. And it would give some work to HAL & maybe get you some economies of scale. They way the indian procedures go they could get them about 2035 & finish upgrading in 2040.

any one in particular on wall street? any particular branch of the Judaeo Christian grouping you have in mind there nicholas10?

The Holodomor was aimed at breaking Ukrainian nationalism. Ukrainian peasants were targeted, not Russians. And what about the similar starvation of the Kazakhs, whose food was taken to Russia? Where is the apology? And the Caucasian peoples slaughtered or forced into exile, from the 19th century to the 1940s? And the treatment of the Crimean Tatars, starting in the 18th century? “Ethnic cleansing” was well known to the Russian Empire.
You are the one being absurd, with your ridiculous attempt to switch the target to Georgia. Stalin was acting as the head of a Russian-dominated centralised state, to strengthen that state & its centralised nature.
Why the hell would russian people apologize for a crime that the bolsheviks did? Russians were the first victims of the bolsheviks. And most of the leaders of the bolsheviks were definately not of slavic origin. If someone had to apologise for the crimes of the bolsheviks, it should be wall street.

Speaking of Egypt I have found this article very interesting:

Just like most of zerohedge’s content btw.
I agree this thread should be moved to the general discussion though.

To be fair most NATO nations aren’t operating F-16s with CFTs, which ofc. come with their own compromises.
+ CFTs have been developed and test flown for the Rafale too. And every Rafale built is plumbed for receiving CFTs.

Could it be for “UN duties”?

bladibla
All your post is rendered completely moot by the fact that you think if someone hates hollande he must be a sarkozy fan.
I may lack culture, as you put it, but you lack some thing else. Something that would allow you to realise that the UMPS is a single party.
BTW Marcel Bloch is a personal hero of mine.

I suppose that everyone and his dog agrees that Typhoon will lose out to a US product. They must just enjoy giving the sales team practice so they don’t annoy genuine prospects like other sales teams I can think of….
You’re right, I’m wondering why they even bother.

Excellent post.

Maybe they could afford to operate Typhoons if they stopped funding Islamists in Syria. :eagerness:
Mind you, François hollande our traitor in chief had a meeting a short while ago with the leader of Syria’s islamist party or whatever to supply some weapons to the insurgency. I guess we wouldn’t need to export so much Rafales if we stopped financing aggression wars & terrorsits in Syria or Libya and spent the money on actually buying the plane.
Nic
So is this funded UCAV the offspring of Taranis and Neuron? Surely what’s good for Rafale would be good for Typhoon? Or have the French decided to continue on their own to provide a full LO capability in the strike realm?
The development of satcom & conformal AESA antennas for integrated EWS/Radar would make the Rafale a perfect tool to control a few UCAVs with line of sight directional AESA signals for improved discretion. Integrated like this it will provide a very cost effective fighter for 99% of the missions, & add the capability to control full stealth UCAVs to penetrate the most defended areas. With the Reco-NG pod you could even do battle damage assessment in near real time.
Say a flight of two Rafales with 2x2000L tanks + 4 Meteor + 4 Mica + 1 Reco NG tanks, controlling 2 UCAVs each would be quite hard to defend against.

So aside from the paranoid anti-globalization (?) rant, do you have anything constructive to add?
You do know that the “toys” we talk about on this forum (like “your” Rafale) aren’t designed to impress children at airshows…
Well, while you can say by my answer that I’m sickened by my country’s behavior in present times, you also get your answer about why modern navies don’t go for smaller more numerous ships. At least that’s my answer to the question, and I think I put it clearly enough: most armies right now are just aimed at being part of a UN coalition. If you don’t believe me just read some issues of DSI where they tackle this very subject and claim it’s a real risk for the french armed forces to be overly concerned with “interoperability”.
You’ve already made my point too:
Quoting yourself:
So basically optimized for sea control, special forces insertions, blockades, or prepositioned forces near failed statesand disaster areas. Aside from a gun for NGFS, armament is limited or non-existant, but provisions exist for future add-ons
Is Libya the disaster area & Syria the near failed state or is it the other way around. What about Mali where “we” fight those we helped in Libya & continue helping in Syria. I’m confused.
Nic
In the new world order you don’t plan for real war, but you must plan to bully the few little countries that aren’t game yet. So a smaller number of super duper ships are more useful than many little ships.
How many ships can you operate near the syrian border, or the libyan border, or venezuelian border, or iranian border ? You don’t want them to crash in eachother right?
If you go by this forum. Every country and their mothers should just have an army for UN duties.

Well, the Gripen C version was pretty irrelevant since it isnt the one offered to Switzerland. All we know is that the E version scores above 6 in all areas (based on the Gripen Demo in 2012). There is still a lot of work to be done meaning the score will continue to improve.
That said I still think the Rafale is an exceptional aircraft. It is larger and heavier (~40% heavier) so it should carry more and fly greater distances.
Well anyway I was just replying to someone who was once again conveying the old myth that the EF is better than the Rafale in air to air. And in their 2008 incarnations the swiss rated the Rafale above in DCA & OCA. They also did with the “2012 prospective versions” which was my point.
I never said anything about the Gripen NG, and you may be right its rates could increase a bit as the uncertainty factore comes down. But it’s still a paper project and I won’t comment until we know how it turns out and @ what cost.
