I hope Sikorsky succeeds with the S97. I like it when companies privately fund ambitious projects.

I agree 100%. Makes you wonder where the antitrust laws have gone.

From what understood from eagle’s post he wasn’t referring to the F-16 but to something else based on Boeing’s proposal. Besides, LM might not mind but the DoD would mind as the F-35 costs would keep going up.

    Cheers,

My bad, indeed I read too fast and thought you guys were talking about the F16.

And steal F-35 orders? Quick! Kill it with fire!

    Cheers,

Heck the money goes to LM anyway, why do they care if people buy F16s or F35s?

Usually the amount of the fine matches the severity of the violation, especially in civil matters.

btw, Anyone from LM go to jail over a violation? Boeing eecs have gone to jail or have we forgotten the tanker fiasco?

Boeing is a criminal company and the tanker fiasco is evidence of that. But LM benefits from the higher protections because:

    1. it’s owned at 75% by the Carlysle group which benefits from the higher support in the state you could think of (even the brother of our former president is a managing director of Carlysle and I won’t even name the former US presidents who are member of that group).
    2. At a point where LM was about to fold, it was refinanced by the bank of america with the caution of the USG, so the USG itself has a financial interest in providing LM with juicy contracts.

The fact that LM has paid a fraction of the fines the other companies do while being caught for more fraud is telling of the support of the USG to LM.

I’d rater have more “minor” violations than less “major” violations.

In other words, whom is a better person, the one who has a bunch of speeding tickets or the guy who has a few DUIs?

Besides, LM had 58 and Boeing had 46. The numbers are not that far off.

The amount of money doesn’t really tell if the violation is major or minor.

Imagine, say company A murders 3 elected persons to get a contract worth $100,000, while company B frauds taxes for an amount of $ 1,000,000. Which is the worst misconduct?

Do you have any of those pesky “facts” to back that statement up?

btw, According to POGO, LM is not the worst (by far).
    http://www.contractormisconduct.org/index.cfm?sort=4

Total Misconduct dollars (in millions USD) since 1995 (I’ll limit it to defense contractors as #1-#9 are non-defense):

    #10 Boeing $1054
    #11 Halliburton $997
    #12 Northrop Grumman $851
    #16 Honeywell $704
    #20 Lockheed $606
    #21 BAE $588
    #25 Raytheon $479
    #26 United Tech $465

Even as a percentage of projection vs actual cost LM comes in nowhere near the top (worst) of the list. I’ll have to find the report where I read that and I’ll post it when I find it.

That report sounds like it considers development funds as improper subsidies. Do you have any details about specific payments to Boeing?

    Holy selective quoting batman.

LM is the 2nd overall in number of misconducts, and only 1 instance of misconduct behind 1st rate Exxon (whodathunkit) & ex aequo with BP

    1st Exxon Mobil – 59 instances
2nd ex aequo BP PLC & LM with 58 instances.

so in reality F-15SE or F-18E/F block III may be able to detected and lock the F-35 at the same time the F-35 do that with them , to remain stealth , they can all carry 4 missiles at the moment so what the advantages of F-35 over these 4.5 generation aircrafts  not to mention that F-18E/F can actually carry 3 ALE-55 so they can easily evade missile from F-35 , while all the F-35 have is the DAS that provide missile warning

Indeed, if everyone is blind, nobody knows who has the cooler jacket.

Nice try, but it is actually quite a piece of news in itself that this editorial would be published. It probably doesn’t come out of the blue.

It’s news insofar as I haven’t seen it posted.

Sorry it doesn’t suit your wet dreams about the JSF though.
