Somehow I think I’d prefer the F-111 in such a situation!

Where is that preserved Natter? The cockpit behind it looks like something Japanese.

See! If an American comes over to the UK is he is looked after, cared for, fed, watered and guided from A to Z! A fine fellow goes over there and they lose him!!

Hmm, last seen around the Mustangs…. are we sure somebody didn’t mistake him for a pitot tube???

I built the Airfix version years ago. Was pretty pleased with it then!

Never seen a Revell version of it before!

    …..never flown like that.

And that’s a good thing too probably! With the Dart up front you’ve got a bit more power (depending on the mark of Dart fitted) and the nose is lengthened too to keep the CofG within limits. This means a lot more swing on take off, and from that photo it looks like a bog standard P-51 tail that’s fitted. I would suggest at least a Cavalier tail but probably even more than that to keep that contraption running straight on take off!

May I suggest a look at the program Microsoft Frontpage? It may not be everyone’s favourite, but it is similar enough to Word to enable a Word user to work on a webpage.

If you’re referring to the same thing: the August issue of the Aeroplane (sorry, the ‘other magazine’) has a bit about it on page 9, including some photos. (BofB Hurricane dug up in London – Relics reunited with pilot who rammed a Dornier Do 17 on the “Hardest Day”)

I can picture Mark 12 dragging that through LHR customs only to meet Steve Patterson dragging a Hurricane the other way. 😀

Now that’s a sight I would want to see with my own eyes!!!
😀 😀 😀 If there are any cartoonists on this forum I’m sure they’ll jump into action now!

    Great photos by the way!

There are several good reasons for a Helo pilot to occupy the righthand seat, the real (some say ‘correct’) reason is probably lost in the mists of helicopter history.

    – It is indeed easier to change freqs with the left hand.
    – Many helicopters tend to fly left skid low and when flying solo the weight of the pilot tends to cancel this out.
    – On many helicopters the hoist and main entrance is on the right, so the commander will be able to see what happens there (important during winching).
    – It is easier to get into the RHS as the collective is not in the way.
    – The first ever batch of Helo instructors where originally fixed wing pilots and tended to sit on the left. Because of this the first batch of students were used to sitting on the right and carried on (another theory).

There are also many helicopters which are flown from the LHS, or which have a center pilot position. So there’s no real definite reason.

    Two options available:

Free one downloadable here: http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk (probably where you got yours in the first place)

There’s also a payware one, but its only plus is the fact that it has a virtual cockpit. Apart from that it has loads of errors and lacks seriously in detail. If you still want it: http://www.vc10.com

If you’re looking for older versions have a look at my site. For more British classics, this site is a must as well: http://www.btinternet.com/%7Erick.piper

    Enjoy!!

Thanks for that LN Strike Eagle, danohagan and Willow! If you have no objections to me using them on my site, could you email them to me at ‘j e l l e @ V C 1 0 . n e t’ (remove the spaces to get a working address 😮 ). 800 pixels or more on the largest side would be great, and if you could include your full name I will add a copyright note with the image.

I’ve got two more: FS3.0 and FS4.0, they look almost exactly the same at first, but the differences are subtle. Image 3 shows the main menu of FS3 while the fourth image shows the same menu but then for FS4 with a few add-ons installed, such as the aircraft and scenery editors and the adventure factory. Another bonus in FS4 (I think it came with the aircraft editor) was the 747 that was included with a true ‘glass cockpit’! 😀
Also I think that FS4 was the first version that supported sound cards.

The external models in FS4 were a bit better too, the gear actually moved instead of dissappeared, and there was a registration on the fuselage. (images 6 and 7). The fun bit of course was adding other aircraft and scenery, such as this Red Arrows Hawk at Eindhoven Airbase (image 8). 😉

The emulator runs at normal Apple IIe speeds, but as the software doesn’t need anything more it’s pretty smooth. If you want to have a go yourself, PM me an e-mail address, I think it all fits into a medium-sized message.

If I can find out how to do screenshots from FS3 to FS5 I’ll post those too, it’ll be fun to see the whole collection together!

Don’t think I ever mastered the combat option either. I recall that you only had to press one key to ‘declare war’, and then you had these little specs that came at you but didn’t really do anything more. You could bomb the enemy base too, but I’ve never seen any damage done. 😀

    I still have a copy of FS1

If anybody is using a Tandy TRS80 to read the forum they can have a copy (It’s probably out of copyright by now) 😮

    Moggy

Hey Moggy, you should be well familiar with the first screenshot below then! I did own a Tandy Color Computer in those days, but played FS1 on my dad’s Apple IIe (in green monochrome!). The second screenshot is from FS2, also on the Apple, but in color this time.

If anyone wants to relive those days, I’ve got an Apple emulator that runs under XP and the needed disk images!
