Hi Steve
Glad to hear you will be looking for those Catalinas as well. There is still an ex RAF guy living over there who helped to sink them. I could put you in touch if necessary I could also get in touch with the last guys to dive on the site. I would really like to know when you plan to dive. Have you any idea of a programme yet?

Sunderlands on Lough Erne
Hi Steve
I come from that area and I now have a cottage near the old Castle Archdale site.
2 years ago I met some divers trying to locate some Catalinas that we know were sunk in the lough after ww2. The told me it was virtually impossible to see in the fresh water because of dense silt on the bottom so I wish you luck.
I am in the area a lot and have a few contacts there so I will follow your quest with interest. There is a small ww2 museum on site which may provide further clues.
Please let me know if you think I can help in any way.

Canberra Variants
Hi Can Fans
Here is another variant I have come across. The RB-57F Still flying at very high altitude with NASA in 1999. Its wingspan was modified to 122ft. by General Dynamics in the states. I wonder where it is now.

Canberra dimensions
Hi Les B and all
Ref. your last message, my records indicate that most canberras were 65ft 6inches long except Pr3s,7sand 9s which were 65ft 8inches long. Anyone want to argue over 2 inches? Not me I’m 72 now!

Canberra Data
Hi Canberra fans
I have nice booklet produced to celebrate the Canberra 50th anniversary.
It gives lots of data and some very good pictures of the prototypes.
I am attaching a pic giving data. Let me know if you want any more.

We know there are 2 or 3 Catalinas on the bottom of Lough Erne in N Ireland but so far the divers can’t locate them

Thanks again for the info and pics. That will keep me busy for a while. I will be at Castle Archdale next Sunday for a couple of weeks and will have another prowl around.
In the meantime here are another few pics I have sourced.
A Cat flying over Enniskillen 1943. The 2 figures bottom left are policemen probably trying to get his number! The maintenance area at Killadeas looks busy. The cat at the bridge, again in 1943. I payed 6 old pence to go inside it ! Paddy R

Many thanks Wieesso, Hurrifan and Pondskater for your info, the pics. and the links.
Castle Archdale is now a large static caravan park and marina catering for holidaymakers.
However there is a small WW2 museum on the site. The big concrete slipway and the large dock built for the Short Shetland (which never got there) is still intact.

Thanks for the pics Miggers
I wouldn’t have recognised the old girl. She was purple when I worked on her and as it was the 60s we called her “The pink purple people eater”. Who remembers that?
I am on my way from Northants to Yeovilton in March for my first visit.
Thanks to this forum I can look forward to my past !
