Well there’s a provisional schedule that’s been mentioned now, 4 weekly A340s by CI with times similar to those used by EK in the evening. Now if they really are going for a MAN passenger launch, they’d be looking to do an announcement in the next month or so as that would allow them to advertise the route to maximum effect prior to the start of the service. So shall we say if all is quiet by the middle of November, then it’s a no-go?
If it’s last MAN visit is planned for October, I take it that the 6th November trip is off now?
Having seen too many rumours about prospective routes, I’m placing great store on who is revealing the story. In this instance, the link is a source who’s been pretty much on the mark for the last couple of year regarding MAN route development. Where they get the info from is through other contact. Yes, it’s the ‘friend of a friend’ style hence my initial sentence.
Who’s thinking of just MAN-TPE? Whilst NZ and CX are dithering about linking MAN & HKG, we’ve got potential for that link to come through this way. Plus through routes to other destinations. Or even if they don’t want to operate that way, with 5th freedom along the way and BKK according to MAN worth 100k passengers a year, I would imagine the volume (and perhaps the yield seeing that it’s picking up) to BKK should see reasonable performance with the icing on the cake being the cargo going the whole route.
Apparently these services are to be publically launched by the airlines within the next month… and both airlines have reportedly stated they want to increase services to the UK to meet demand.
Darren, my site’s been on the backburner unfortunately. But I’ll be looking to restart something soonish with a mix of news and movements. Plus the odd photo that I’m willing to inflict on viewers!
Think the freight runs may see Eva Air and their MD11s whilst the pax may be China Airlines A340s. Either airline, though, would open a range of Asian destinations (and provide another alternative to getting Australia?)
also not revealed for some reason is that AA’s MAN-JFK route has been converted from seasonal to year-round. This emerged in advance of the press conference and I would have thought it worthy of a mention as it demonstrates what the possiblities are for linking hubs to secondary cities for year-round ops now that ATI is in place, and not just for peak summer ops outside ATI.
If a company literally runs out of money to pay wages and is placed in Administration, then you can apply to get your wages through the Redundancy Payments Office (up to a max of 8 weeks wages pegged at £350/wk).
In my instance, the company where I worked wasn’t in administration… we were closed down by the Solicitor’s Regulatory Authority for a number of reasons; one of them being non-payment of wages (it’s coming up ro 7 months since they did not pay wages). We that were at the company have been waiting for a long time for the partner to be declared bankrupt as although there are plenty of default judgements for non-payment of wages, the practice had no assets and no funds. Hence, the only way we could get out wages would be once we knew that the bankruptcy order was in place and so we could go through the Redundancy Payments Office. I hope to be able to claim around £2000 but I’m owed in excess of £3000 so I’ll likely become an unsecured creditor getting miniscule amounts in the pound for the outstanding £1000 once his assets are sold.

What I’m about to write looks very wrong: finally getting to know a bankruptcy number of a person. Now that means that £3k in unpaid wages and holiday pay will be mine in about 3 months through the government… except it’s not going to be that much (can only claim for about £2k). But it’s the best news I’ve had relating to my ex-workplace for months!

Last film is the one I’m watching for the umpteenth time- Murder on the Orient Express (the 1974 version with Albert Finney’s ridiculous accent whilst acting as Hercule Poirot). Taken me all this time to find an error in it – roughly 17 minutes in, the train’s in Istanbul station and when the actors go toward the train (it’s the scene after the lady is surrounded by Turkish hawkers) there’s a notice advertising “Côtte D’Azur” in the background. Never ever seen it spelt other than “Côte D’Azur”. Can’t find any reference to it movie mistake websites… so either I’m seeing things, it’s been noted but not worthwhile commenting on or no-one has ever seen that before?!
Tried to get a screen capture
Alternatively You tube video, 7:34 into it

I’ve seen it reported that 7000 to 11000 people turned up.
Most interesting comment I’ve seen today is that EK say that the 2 daily MAN services are more profitable than the 3 daily LGW services. Doesn’t LGW have F class offered?! Interesing trade-off in prospect now for MAN and EK – passenger numbers boosted (driven by the need for F class out of here – think someone should tell them that some airlines believe there no such demand for that class out of a regional, and that they need to stop turning passengers away from MAN) but cargo set to drop. We need the 3rd service soon, or we need Emirates SkyCargo to begin!
