Superb post, Tin Triangle!
We’ve nearly always got a thread running on here about Hendon’s problems- lighting, opening times, etc- have had for years. And now they hit us with this. 🙁
Disgusting amount of money and a disgusting looking building, made all the worse by the ****-poor state of Hendon as it already stands.
Poor BBMF are having quite the time of it! My best wishes to them all.
I suspect she’s long been picked clean of useable bits already, but what about Sugar in Hendon?
I’d assume that the BBMF have anything BUT a huge cheque book, which is precisely why they are appealing to the historic aviation community for help to get the bomber flying again.
Fantastic, thanks everyone!
BBMFPRO,
I was assuming this item is located in the cockpit? but the photo looks like its on the wing spar somewhere, is that correct? and if so where? as its possible the same unit is used on Lincolns?
Regards
Mark Pilkington
Yup- on the front face of the forward spar, under the lift up cover I think?
Do we know what’s wrong with the original one? And surely anything can be machined anew given time and a company willing to help?
No it is David Gilmour of Pink Floyd and Intrepid Aviation. 😉
Well corrected, and what’s more David actually sold Intrepid some years ago.
Certainly was… i thought for a minute my binoculars were deceiving me.
I can remember years ago Flypast printing a pic of the BBMF Lancaster coming back on three… it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
That was at RAF St Athan in (I think) 1983; I was there!
…to add also, any sectioned or scrapper engine would be considered for other parts too!
Okay, this is a much bigger ask, but you never know…
Our replacement Orpheus for Bluebird is a 101, but we’re creating a sort of hybrid engine by using as much of Donald Campbell’s original 701 systems on it as we possibly can- oil, fuel, etc.
We can’t help but notice though that the delivery case on the Orph 800- which we can see in pics around the net- looks to be more like the 701 example than the 101 type that we actually have. So…these museums with sectioned 800s, and anywhere that may have one…in fact, anyone who could help with anything- a lead, a contact, an outright offer etc…fancy a case swap?
Hi all- we’re on the scrounge again! Something a bit more substantial this time though. We’re after a Rotax air starter, part number CT1009 or the older CT0801. Needs to be working or repairable to working order.
Cheers!
Would hope you get an FN50 from somewhere- the Martin turrets look all wrong on a Lanc to me!
