Absolutely stunning- the world has a Halifax up on it’s own feet at last!
Now, where’s that pesky Stirling…
Superb stuff, bravo. And mine’s worn with pride, of course.
You guys are missing the point- the lottery people have already said ‘no’ to restoring the craft to actual running order. They want more conservation of the existing structure, and ultimately then, a static rebuild.
Absolutely- there must be Stirling out there somewhere…
Actually Roger, K7 in it’s final form did away with the Beryl engine that had served it so well for so many records, and had fitted instead an Orpheus, sourced from a Gnat. The tail fin came from the same aircraft, and then following the collapsing of the air intakes on an early engine run, Campbell aquired a further Gnat to get a replacement engine.
The engine now is in rather a state- all the soft metals have disolved away, and they were pulling handfuls of loose turbine blades out of it when she was first opened up! So a complete scrapper, I’m afraid.
Yup; a real beauty and a testament to all involved; at last, a genuine Halifax! (Not counting the rusty lump at Hendon and the Airfix at Elvington, of course) 😀
Really pleased for you mate, and great pictures too- and hey, you look just like a mate of mine over here, too!
LOL @ Hatton!
I do still lurk here mate, but am very busy with other things right now- building a Dalek, for one. (Don’t ask!)
Re. my wishes for the Lanc’s new look, well, as you kindly asked, I thought I’d like to see it flying around with this kind of budgie-perch shaped thing beneath it’s tailwheel you see, and perhaps with the sound of Glenn Miller on a loop playng nearby and the smell of something that’s purported to be food, but upon purchase, really, really isn’t…all in the murk and gloom, of course!
I think my thoughts on what a good new scheme could be are well known!
Just caught up with this- OUTSTANDING!
Reminds me of my video of when NX611 came ‘back to life’, also starting with No.3; that also coughed and spluttered and ran like a box of frogs, but it was still great and look where she is now!
Congrats to all that had a hand in this, very well done- enjoy that sweet purr!
Only just caught up with this sad news…my sincere condolences to all.
I think a few are pictured in Frank Mason’s Lanc book, aren’t they?
Birthday Greetings, Cattermole!
Well, I can’t offer plans, but I can offer encouragement! Good luck!
Anyone interested who hasn’t simply must read ‘Man On The Moon’ by Andrew Chaikin, it’s superb.
