Fiat G46 G-BBII doing very low level aeros today over Latimer House, Little Chalfont-
I could only see the tops of the loops, and that was 1,000ft max! Over open countryside though so shouldn’t bother anyone, and looked marvellous.

Buzzed off in the direction of N.Weald.

G-ANLW was flown in spurious miltary colours for the WW2 (!) drama ‘Eye Of The Needle’ .

The twin -finned machine may well have been the MH Broussard which flew over Amersham at lunchtime, escorted by an RV4, which was scampering around it. They were headed towards DX.

I can’t see the BA surcharge directly affecting historic a/c operations, but in general the fuel situation must begin to bite.

You will probably see it first in entry level ‘warbirds’ , simply becuase if money were no object most people would go straight to the more snorty end of the spectrum, thus probably we’ll see Harvards coming on the market with very little take-up, as well as Yak 52s and other fuel-guzzlers.

It would be great to imagine there is some light at the end of this particular tunnel, but I simply cannot see it

Poor ‘DJ’ actually came down about 2 miles NE of Henley O Thames, spun in seemingly, very sad.

There is a Tiger owner in Sweden who gets weary of repeating that his one is actually the oldest flying, not the oft-quoted G-ACDC. Might be true, someone will know!

Jeff Hawke would have approved !

I saw something similar a few years ago, as the B25 positioned from DX to Fairford on a very thick afternoons , a grey thundering apparition whipping through the lowest tendrils of cloud at about 700 feet heading for the Chiltern ridge somewhere near Princes Risborough-must have had balls like Space-Hoppers!

Don’t forget the DH Moth club Charity Flying day at RAF Halton (Bucks) in June. Not just Tigers either but Fox, Hornet, Rapide, Dragonfly or whatever, as well as Chipmoths.

Better value than the commercial outfits ( was £65 per trip I think) and all going to Chariddeee….. See more on Moth Club website, and get there early, as it is a popular event.

Last year was a rather squishy, so it is bound to be a scorcher in 2008!

A number were built (4-6?) in the USA round about 1980 for the movie High Road To China ( Tom Sellick) but not used for some reason, with various Stampes and Stearman being sourced as an alternative, mainly in UK and taken to Yugoslavia.

PPS at Booker were involved, and Dave Perrin lost his life in a helicopter accident during the filming.

Wonder who will do the first flight on the Gladiator. It might make sense to get one of the Shuttleworth pilots with type experience. The pool of Shuttleworth pilots used to include a fair proportion of ETPS graduates, so this would be bread-and-butter to one of them.

There is usually something interesting to see at WW if the weather is OK.

We have 7 Tigers, 2 Jungmann, DH 60, SE5 rep, Moth Minor, Miles Hawk, Harvard, Me 108, 4 Cubs, 2 Chipmunk, Jungmeister, 2 Stampes, Stinson Reliant, Luton Minor, Hornet Moth, 4 Yak 52’s, Starduster, 3 Pitts, and a smattering of spam ( as well as others I have forgotten) .

P40 and Spit are often in.

As the function of the CAA changes, and much of their workload transfers to Europe, will we see a corresponing reduction of the workforce and cutting of operational costs?

    Dream on……………………

MK continues to ruffle feathers and generally wind people up, judging from the chatter on various forums ( Cafe Supercub et al ) . The focus seems to have shifted from his heroic, gung-ho exploits to the state of his mental health, though the two may well be related.

As the psycologist in Fawlty Tower once observed of Basil ‘ there’s enough material there for a conference!’.
