Thai, I would suggest you investigate West London Hero Club at White Waltham, not the cheapest, but you intimate that cost is not an issue. The club atmosphere is unrivalled, with a wonderful ‘Battle of Britain’ feel to the place, and a great range of really interesting, based aeroplanes.

The club fleet caters for all tastes, from singles, twins, tailwheel, and Waltham is a hot-bed of aerobatics, offering top-class tuition. Other airfields I have visited offer a service akin to hiring a car, ie reasonably effecient but you arrive, pick up the keys, do your stuff, pay the bill, and leave. Though it is a commercial operation, there is a strong ‘Club’ atmosphere, and I strongly suggest you check it out.
PM me if you would like to meet up, and I will show you round, with pleasure.

The meeting, or otherwise, of expectations is surely an individual matter, and there is no requirement to be told what we will think. All replicas huh? No kidding. You would think that might have been mentioned in the other 4 page thread- Oh, it was.

There are conflicting reports regarding the flyabilityness of the Sopwith, but are there any pictures of it actually airborne? It looked to me rather a lash-up, and if it IS airworthy, the instrumentation is spartan to say the least.

There was one (or two) flying in Australia, until pretty recently. If they are not still airworthy, they are probably not far off.

Perhaps this picture will inspire a few builders-from-scratch { Kemble, last weekend} a very impressive effort.

Maybe the builder will find time to log on, and tell us more.

Yes, was owned by PM, but before that was based at Booker for many years in the ownership of Phillip Mann. As I recall, it was used in ‘Aces High’, and they consumed a rather effective replica in one of the crash scenes.

‘Let his puppy out’ ?? What sort of a euphemism is that ?

Nevil Duke is another one, but there cannot be many of the WW2 guys still flying now.

Seemingly the Vimy will have ‘ no modern instruments on board ‘ for this monumental flight. I am all for authenticity etc etc, but if I were taking this trip, I sure as hell would have a GPS smuggled away, just in case. Sixteen hours holding a magnetic heading, through the night as well. Eeek !

I wonder if a transponder counts as an instrument?

Website says they are looking at a Sunday am departure.
They can’t be flying through the night (can they ??) so to land at last light in Eire would give them until 9.30 (ish). Good luck chaps !

How about a Parks P1, or P2, as owned and barnstormed by Richard Bach, and described in ‘Nothing by chance’ – great book, by the way.

I expect you could find some ‘Health and Safety’ enthusiast who would delight in telling you that sensitive flight instruments should be protected from extreme temperatures. Who knows, it might even be true.

The G-46 is based at Booker (again) as it was from mid-70’s, when in the stable of Patrick Lindsay. She was later at Staverton for a while, wearing peculiar ‘airshow friendly’ German colours.

A nice touch with the G-46 is a lever in the instructor’s cockpit (rear) which dis-connects the controls in the front. Probably best if your non-pilot passenger did not fiddle with that one!

PPRuNe reports a Daily Telegraph piece today, intimating that Sally B will fly at the Blenheim Palace event on August 14th.

Insurance cover has been supplied by The Virgin Group and an ‘anonymous American donor’. Good news as far as it goes, but we are not out of the woods yet; a display season with one appearance is a bit on the thin side, though any progress is encouraging.

Apologies if this development has already been posted, but there are various threads referring to this issue, and I have not scanned all of them!

Yeah, that’s why it is covered in close-shaving foam.

A very good effort, and in the murky world of looky-likey Spitfires, certainly one of the better ones. The slight deviations from R.J.M’s original design are obvious for all to see and are not worth stating, here, but the main thing is it does not look like a green/brown Taylor Titch!

It will look even better if they let it ‘weather’ a bit, scuffed and streaky the way the Shuttleworth AR501 used to.

Avro’s Finest- I have zero recollection of anything you did or did not contribute, but I do not understand the logic in starting a thread which, in essence, has no subject.
