I hope the BBMF Spit did not fly all the way to Bedfordshire just to perform those four, distant, barely banked passes. Maybe they were just having a whizz round to dry the black primer!

Perhaps the Flight Standing orders are pretty rigid about what is permitted, but the later performance of JR in the MK1 Spit was a welcome reminder of how a fighter aircraft is more usually flown.

A World War II fighter aircraft was dredged up from the bottom of the Kerch Strait between Crimea and mainland Russia on Saturday.
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighter aircraft, leased from the US to the Soviet Red Army, spent about 70 years underwater until divers spotted it nearly four miles from the coast.
The divers were searching the waters for mines and bombs with the $3.2 billion construction of the Kerch Strait Bridge – a project Russian President Vladimir Putin as called a ‘historic mission’.
The Kremlin sees the bridge, which will span the Kerch Strait, as vital to integrating Crimea, which it seized from Ukraine in 2014.
On Saturday, a crane borrowed from the bridge’s construction lifted the decayed plane, which may be incorporated into a future exhibition by a historical reconstruction group, RT reported.
The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was constructed by the Curtiss-Wright Corporation’s main production facilities in Buffalo, New York, before the planes were widely used among the Allied powers in WWII.

The Vampire operators requested, at the time of the incident, that it should not be posted on social media or, by implication, on internet forums ( fora) .

Understandably, the attention is by no means welcome, but probably King Canute had more chance of turning the tide, than getting people to delete photos of the rampaging Vampire !

Buckinghamshire Highways dept experimented with a similar thin dressing of tarmac on their disintegrating roads, and that all came unstuck as well…

The comfortable notion that the B o B film is of our ‘modern’ era becomes ever harder to sustain when you remember that the filming took place 23 years after hostilities ended, but we are now 72 (!) years from VE day

In fact next year we can mark ‘Half a century’ since the filming of the greatest ever aviation film !

The present colour scheme does rather draw ones eye to the profile of the new ‘nose job’ , in particular the bright yellow section.

Perhaps a just a plain, constant colour over the fuselage would help to smooth and blend the appearance.

I concur. Looks like a new-build Robin, though the undercarriage legs appear a bit wonky.

I would be amazed if they scrap that, as it is such an attractive and iconic curiosity and easy to transport.

If you did scrap it you would end up with a very modest quantity of mixed metals, even less if much of the engine is absent.

NH341. G-CICK, owned by Keith Perkins of Aerolegends. Had maiden flight first customer flights shortly. £2500 with Aerolegends for 20 min experience /10 min airborne. (Rebuilt mainly from new parts and finished 2017.

Ten Minutes airborne for £2,500 ! Hmmmmm……..Time will tell whether the punters will swallow that.

High enough that it had a base camp…

Ahem;….. Some of the bad people who went there told me it was about as high as a grandstand, and gave a fantastic panoramic view.
