BBMF Today
BBMF Lancaster heading straight out of Biggin Hill about an hour ago 6:30ish, got a lovely view as it passed directly over my house! Also earlier today spotted BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane heading towards Biggin at around 2PM and heading out of Biggin Hill again at about 4:30 PM.
Spitfire spotted heading south east -ish at approx 4pm in the Headcorn area in Kent. Had cannons and invasion stripes, and sounded Merliny (sic). Would hazard a guess at TA805 spirit of Kent? Anyone else see her?
Would be a good guess for TA805 as the only other Spit with cannon and invasion stripes is I think Tom Blairs’ PL344 based at Duxford.
Spirit Of Kent
Spitfire MK 9 TA805 out and about today, saw her heading back to Biggin Hill around 3PM ish. Weather has been great today!!!
Just seen a Spitfire
Spitfire TA 805 ‘The Kent Spitfire’ has just flown directly over my house about 30 minutes ago heading straight into Biggin Hill at very low speed coughing and spluttering all the way! It was looking very nice in its new D-Day invasion stripes.:)
Mustang ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ is back in her original scheme today.
I was a Headcorn and saw that low pass too, I wish I was standing by the the fence with my camcorder!!!
This is probably a really daft question, but who bought it…?
N
Bonhams has named the buyer on their website as Steven Brooks a financier and polar explorer.
Found some video of them here (no Stearmans I’m afraid Y11F) : –

Did you film them by any chance also?
Cheers
Paul
I did film them, I got almost the same footage as the you tube vid. Great afternoon that was!
Correct, it was MH434
Thanks for the info chaps.
Did you miss the Stearman????
How could I have forgotten the Stearman, yeah I saw it but missed it depart.
At Headcorn Today…
P-51 Mustang’s ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ and ‘Janie’ were in residence at Headcorn today shortly afterwards to be joined by Peter Teichmans’ Hangar 11 Collection Spitfire MK XI. Nice!
‘Janie’ went up quite a few times whilst I was there and it was the first time Ive seen the MK XI in the flesh. Am I right in saying this was the Spitfire used in ‘A Bridge Too Far’ ?
I reread the thread again and the question is asked about a Horsemen three ship,I guess the answer means that Miss Velma will be one of the aircraft, another one will be brought across,(probably in company with the P38) and the third is the surprise.
Bring back the ‘Princess’!!!
What engines does this beast have, Pratt and Whitneys?
I went, despite the rain and the bitter cold I had a great day, Highlight for me was the Typhoon. I see them all the time out of Coningsby, but to see the all be it limited display was great 😀
But everything else was great too 😀 don’t get me wrong 🙂Thank you to everyone at Duxford for making the most of the breaks in the cloud and putting on a darn good show, I was very impressed 🙂
Sometime tomorrow I may get around to putting up some vids on youtube, right now I’m far to tired and my feet hurt (huge blisters from wet shoes :()
I must agree a cracking show despite the wet start. Enough warbirds for me, and the Typhoon display was absolutely stonking!!! Plus the P40-B flew too, and the finale executed by OFMC’s ‘MH434’ and ‘Ferocious Frankie’ what more could a warbird addict ask for!?!?!
Thank you once again Duxford, very enjoyable!!!
Every year I swear that I’m not going to Legends because it getting samey. Every year I go anyway, primarily to see the Balbo, having seen every one since the start back in the early 90’s. One of the impressive sights in the airshow milieu. Thanks for that, Fresh, were you using the video function on a ‘stills’ digital or do you have a digital video camera?
Thanks for your comment, I use a High Definition camcorder.
