Very nice it was. With hindsight i soooo want it….
.
Stuart,
I believe it was under the nose. That’s certainly where i found a small sample of forumites, but no sign of anyone else from Essex who said they’d be coming.
.
Thanks
I’d just like to say, even though i only had my ‘Joe Public’ hat on, how welcome i was made to feel by faces & names old and new.
Thanks to those who brought along parts for the Harrier, thanks to those Aerobooters who turned up and sold Gnat parts to me, Mr King for making a special trip with canopies for the Invader. Thanks to Air Ministry for allowing me to ‘dump’ some of the pile with him until home time. Thanks to my driver, ‘HMS Vulture’ for badgering me for the last few months to go.
It’s a shame i only managed a cursory 10 or 15 minutes each with most of the Cockpiteers and then not all. Multiply that by the number of faces and the day just isn’t long enough, especially 4+ hours each way, even at 70mph+
No time to eat, drink or hardly even photograph everything and only a cursory glance at the museum aircraft. With hindsight i’m glad i didn’t just turn up with the Harrier, as my 9+ hours there wasn’t enough time at all.
Nice one guys……. ![]()

Indeed, good the meet the folks who turned up.
Is there a meet again today ?
.
…..So clearly to undertake a Lanc you would need to access a centre-section, it seems the 2 Lancaster wrecks in Canada both have surviving wing outer panels but totally destroyed centre-sections, “Elsie” in Europe similarly has little surviving of its centre-section, and the Lincoln Centre-section in Canada is cut in two with one section un-accounted for?
Mark,
I recall a thread & photo here recently showing the very substantial wing/center remains of a Lanc in a museum in Germany. I think recovered from a lake after the war. I’ll see if i can find it…..
EDIT: Aha, here it is…

I’ll be wearing my usual “Gnat XM692” garb. 😀
.
Interesting Vulcan panel project. Vulcan bits tend to pop up on ebay now and again..
Peter,
I have all i need, thanks.
.
XM692, will there be an event there next year as I will bring my Spitfire along if there is?
Barry, yes quite probably.
Since formation in 2003 South West Airfields Heritage Trust have seen an annual & successful growth, with Upotterys first event in 2004, unveiling of a memorial in 2005. And in 2007 succeeded in bringing the runways back to operational condition, culminating in a visit to the event by a C-47 (and again in 2008).
Long term aim is to purchase and preserve a control tower in a similiar vain to what has been achieved at East Kirkby. More details here….

I thought it was very good, thoroughly enjoyed myself and the company of forumites T6Flyer, Spitfireman and HFL….
😀
Just an idle thought really, but how many Gnats are there in flying condition in this country? I know one or two have occasionally flown in formation with the Hawks but I just wondered whether it was actually possible to have 9 in the air at once?
MH
No chance, although you might achieve it stateside.
.
🙂 An unspoken wish for me might be coming true in so far as I hear whispers that Ritch and Max might now be displaying a cockpit!
Anyone heard any more?
From your own list…. Chippax WZ869 i presume ?
.
Yes, just turn up i’ve been told, no charges or fee’s to be incured by exhibitors.
.
Assuming this Airbus was 30,000+ high, do drug planes also fly that high ?
.
Thats just up the road from me havent heard a thing about it until now
More details here Graham….
