Air Experience flight in the RAF 5/10/77 on board VC.10 XV107. 1hr 40mins From Scampton to Leeming, landed then back to Scampton.
And if it wasn’t enough to enjoy my first ever flight, I will never forget the sight climbing out of Scampton and looking down on all those Vulcans!
I found this old story after Googling this Harrier crash – I clearly remember one of the daily rags (Mirror I think) back in 1973 had this photo in B&W enlarged to fill the entire centre pages. I pinned it up on my bedroom wall, and vaguely remember the story heading was something like “seconds from disaster”…….
Glad I found it again after all these years.

Well if someone has £15k to spare, we might be able to find out – you’d take more than one photograph of that right!
If so, then they must have repainted the top of the fin as well as changing/amending the code because there is a difference in the paintwork.
If you compare the camouflage in Tim’s picture to the Ebay picture, they just about line up exactly looking through my glasses, so not too sure what you mean?
hmmmm not convinced its 458 with the DX codes 456 also had the DX codes until it finished flying.
You may well be right but the Ebay seller advised that this is 458 – he didn’t respond to all the other questions though like why, where & when……..yet anyway.
Interesting responses so far though 🙂
why not try asking the seller the question through ebay ?
Did that yesterday – no joy yet
………front-line planes like the Typhoon or the Harrier jump-jet both of which are used in Afghanistan.
One day, the press will report something correct for a change 🙁
Watching Sgt Marsden throw his cap and pace stick through the hangar was always a good laugh.
He was a very frustrated man,
Wonder if it’s the same Sgt Marsden I knew?
I went through Swinderby Aug-Oct 1977 and the Sgt Marsden I knew whacked me on my head with his pace stick when I misheard one of his commands in the hanger during drill……git!
