Found it!!
AVBowd,
If you see this, would you mind sending me a private message please? You dont appear to have that option selected.
Many Thanks,
Gary
Dont they all look awesome – sadly I have all of those its just this one elusive double pager thats evading me Tony!
and still looking…………. 🙂
I have a strong sense that this ad was in one of the RAF year books that my Dad used to buy me from the Royal Tournament…
The RAF placed regular ads in the year books, you are right but not this one – I have every year book from beginning to the last one.
I remember that Air Pictorial regularly carried RAF recruiting adverts in the seventies. In my attic I have many bundles of these. As soon as time permits, I’l get them out and see if they contain the one you’re after, Gary.
p.s. my wife has just read this and commented that it is about as unconvincing as the other excuses up with which I’ve come for getting my old aviation magazines out of store and wasting a day rereading them!
That would be great and…………….I’ll let you handle the wife 🙂
Still looking 🙂
Just re-visiting this thread I started almost 5 years ago now! I am so glad to see that others have found it of use and contributed to it
Hi Steve, if you do manage to resize the image it would be great to see it here.
If Steve emails me it I’ll re-size and add to this if Steve hasnt already done so by then.
Hi Gary, I have a JPEG of the photo but the file size is too large to post here. I can either email it to you or at some point I can re-save it in a smaller size.
PM sent Steve
Thanks to my Son’s I’m now the proud owner of this book and can’t wait to get stuck in to it!
I have a similar shot of XG185 showing that it also had a white disc on the nose where the squadron checks had been.
Bingo – that will do for me. Is this photo in a book Steve or is it shareable?
Thanks for IDing the serial location Adrian – can see that now.
Another similarly marked Hunter 6 (XG189) had a circular white disc on the nose, so I’d stab a guess that this a/c did too. XG189 however appears to carry different fuselage bars so clearly nothing can be taken for granted.
This has turned out to be one very challenging research project!
Anyone know if Oceans still in the Thames and if so when she’s leaving?
Air Experience flight in the RAF 5/10/77 on board VC.10 XV107. 1hr 40mins From Scampton to Leeming, landed then back to Scampton.
And if it wasn’t enough to enjoy my first ever flight, I will never forget the sight climbing out of Scampton and looking down on all those Vulcans!
