Thanks guys, I appreciate your help. I was a pupil at St Austell Grammar School at the time and can well remember that at school assembly the head master sternly ordering us to hand in any parts of the aircraft that we had retrieved.

    First flights

Was in 1225 sqd (St Austell) ATC in he ’50s. St Eval and St Mawgan were only twenty miles away. First flight was in an MR2 Lancaster out over the Atlantic-I can hear those four Merlins even now and smell the hydraulic fluids and lubes. This was followed by flights in Mk1 and 2 Shackletons. Summer camps added an Anson, a Chipmunk and a boring old Hastings out of Lyneham. Then years later there were only commercial jets for vacations until I had a short but totally awesome ride in a Pitts Special with one of the Toyota Display Team guys out of Redhill.
I guess I was around at just the right time for all of these. Do ATC cadets still get these “air experience” flights?
