RE: How safe is Cubana?
Just a note. The B747 crashed in Holland into the appartment block wasn´t from KAL but from El AL.
RE: VC10 OR 707
That´s simple. Power gives influence and sometimes dirty tricks to dominate market. I just remember when EL AL wanted to buy Airbus and MS Madeleine Albright former (Secretary of State) called to tell the israeli that they would find terribly unfriendly that they buy Airbus. Sometimes, bigger manufacturers make price dumping or have better selling conditions. This doesn´t mean that products are superior.
RE: Boeing to enter regional market…..
I am sure but, doesn´t Airbus have an stake on Dornier?
RE: How safe is Cubana?
I didn´t mean to cause such a controversy. Statistics and safety surveys sometimes are simplistic and doesn´t clear if an airline is safe or not. How can someone say that an airline is more secure than other only for the number of crashes?. Sometimes we have to take into account other factors not related to the airlines and causing accidents such as orography, bad weather, poorly equiped airports. Sometimes the maintenance and procedures are fine but have to operate in such poor conditions. I would like to see airlines like Lufthansa operating in Bolivia or Peru for instance. For instance, what´s really scaring is AA 587……fine plane, good weather, good airport….but an aircraft collapsing…..weird
RE: How safe is Cubana?
All of you are vey witty and funny today….:-). I knew CUBANA standards are really low. I remember in 1982 when I flew from MAD to HAV, travelling in a ricketly IL-62, landing in Gander and in Antonov 26 in Santiago de Cuba in the middle of a storm. I spected some confort. Well, I think I´ll be changing my reservations for a more expensive Iberia ticket on a B747-300 which is much more promissing. In CUBA they say as slogan…
CUBANA si no llega hoy, en ataud mañana…..
Which means….no rhyme in English…CUBANA if one doesn´t arrive today, in coffin tomorrow.
RE: VC10 OR 707
British aircraft were even better than their american counterparts. I have never flown the VC10 but I have seen the Duxford model and I was surprised for it interior space. Much confortable than B707, which I flew when I was a kid. The British aircraft, like the Caravelle and other european models came out in a time where the american brands dominated the market. Even the Mercure, was much more advanced and better aircraft than the B737. The Caravelle was a legend, and the Trident, was much more sturdy and advanced that the B727. I am not sure about the safety of VC10. Having the engines mounted so close (like Concorde) a fire or explosion would be terrible. I know the IL-62 had this problem. I remember a couple of terrible crashes happened to this later model because of that feature.
RE: First bmibaby aircraft painted
Well, creative but a bit dull.
RE: 1,000 posts special-Where are you all from?
From Santiago de Compostela (St James Shrine), Northwest of Spain.
But don´t get confused guys….no sun, no bullfighting (puajjjj),
no paella, tortilla, Sangria, flamenco or all that touristical things. It´s like Scotland or Ireland, green landscape, windpipes, fair people, lakes and magical legends. Come over….

RE: Embraer 145
I have worked for an airline using the EMB145, so I flew it during a year almost every week and I quite enjoy this aircraft. Initially I didn´t like it since I found a bit narrow and with the racks too low. But after being in my seat the space was very generous and the windows which were much bigger than other similar airlines gave it a nice an widebody look. The cabin is spectacular with a really modern technology. It´s not really stable especially in strong winds. However it´s really powerfull and taking off one feels projected to the back of the seats. galleys tend to be really wide for a plane this size and toilets are quite spacious. The level of noise is absolutely low even in take off. Just one disadvantage. If one seats at the back, it´s like flying on a pencil. For fat people is not really wide especially if you are seated on the right which is the sole seat row.
RE: Boeing Offers New 747-400X
AND…the B777 being a nice plane, looks to me like a Tristar without the back engine.
RE: 35 today !!!
Happy Birthday
RE: Swiss looks to join OneWorld!!
Swiss will have to forget about high dreams and concentrate its traffic and giving aside the idea of a global airline. Switzerland doesn´t offer traffic enough for a global idea. Too many hubs arrounds competing ZRH. The new logo is not really nice. Imaginative….?….well not much. It seems that the marketing dept, had to pay to the advertasing company only an euro for the idea. A white plane with single boring and plain letters on planes sides….I don´t like it. Even the name is absurd. Swiss…what?, airlines, airways, express……it sounds like calling Iberia….Spanish, or French to AF or even Italian to Alitalian. Not comercial at all.
RE: Boeing 737 – Is it time to move on?
I do agree. Boeing philophy is really cost effective but sometimes lack a bit of creativity. Of course money is money and they run a company not an art gallery. But in case of the B737 which I don´t particularly like it´s time for new planes, new designs like in the case of the B777. Being the best sold aircraft doesn´t mean that´s superior to other aircraft. Several factors have to be analysed to explain his success. Being good is cheap, economic and Boeing sometimes has the assistance of the US administration in terms of political preasures for a country to accept their products. The case of Ryanair is clear…..fleet commodity and cost effectivity (essential for a Low Cost)…the best factor to have choosen Boeing.
RE: Future of 146/Avro RJ?
I know a country which will have big problems and this is Buttan and Druk Air. They only operated Bae146 and had purchased the new avros.
What will happen?. British Aeroespace will have at least to guarantee the orders.
RE: Manx Airlines
Bad news for Manx airlines. I hope it doesn´t affect LPL flights to Douglas. Had BA ever flights from LPL?. It seems that the world favourite airlines is more concerned in HUb, HUB ideas to regional conections.
