And their football team’s not very good… 😉not that I’m complaining, mind you… 😀
Well, they are in the forth position in the Spanish First League right now, so they aren´t that bad. In any case, much better than ours which is in the Second Division one.

Indeed, we are talking about Christian Europe, or at least those Christians who accepted the beliefs of “Cluny”. Many churches and guesthouses were build on the roads to Santiago, so that these thousands of pelgrims would be able to accomplish the journey … on foot. Because so many people from all over Europe different places visited Santiago from the 13th century on, we could actually consider this city as the “cultural capital of Europe” during the middle ages. At that time, Europe and Christianity was considered to be one, eventhough it would last untill 1492 before the reconquista would be completed thanks to Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castilia.
You clever boy. 🙂

Keltic,I also know your place! During the middle ages, it was the most visited place in Europe. People from all over the continent came to visit Santiago De Compostella. I should really go there once, and I think western-Spain is a lot nicer than the Mediterranian coasts.
I am impressed. Surely, as a matter of fact the christian identity of Europe, couldn´t be perceived without this so called (Camino de Santiago) Way to Santiago, Jakobsweg, whatever. Hundreds of years of interchange of ideas, art, culture went along that way, which still persists and come from different parts to mix in a single route in Roncesvalles (close to the Pirynees).

The change was orientated to the western customers, again they have surrender to their nostalgia and it´s something wrong and no commercial. Would you imagine LH with the Hitler cross?. Doesn´t make sense at all.

Well, specially aimed to US stablishment. Now Bush (I find him a tool of a terrible US administration, full of wolfowich, Perle, Chenney….with preventive strikes in mind and so on) and to US politicians when their decissions affect other parts of the world. The more intrusive is the US administration in other countries affairs the more rejected are america. I don´t think this goes to the individuals, probably only when these individuals play a role on the politicians wishes and affect us. The US bashing is usually fear and feeling helpless. Usually Democrats are more popular in Europe and Clinton was definitely a friendly chap here.

Keltic,
I just noticed your location is Santiago de Compostela , me and some friends went on a motorcycling tour four years ago , we got the ferry to Santander then headed for Oviedo , spent a few nights in La Coruna ( I think we passed Santiago de Compostela , although I’m probably wrong !!) before travelling down to Vigo then crosscountry to Salamanca , then headed down to Jerez for a trackday , the accomodation and wine was amazingly cheap , unfortunately it got more expensive the further south-east we went. Riding with no helmets on wearing just Tee-shirts made a big difference to what we are normally used to.
wowww ,great Scottish friend. Someone at last know my place. But…..not stopping in Santiango, the most amazing medieval city in Spain……too bad. It´s the capital of the region, heritage of mankind, shrine of St James, and destination of million tourists every year. Pity you have missed it. La Coruña (our neighbouring rival) not that nice and Vigo it´s probably the ugliest city in the region despite the scenic fjord it lies on.
